Answering VietNamNet this morning (March 3), Mr. Dao Van Khanh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Te district, Lai Chau province said that he is sending a delegation to assess the damage after the earthquake.

According to Mr. Khanh, the earthquake occurred at dawn, at that time he and many people clearly felt the tremors of the 4.4-magnitude earthquake.

"Everything shook for about 30 seconds then returned to normal," Khanh said. Chairman of the People's Committee of Muong Te district said that the earthquake did not cause any loss of life. A kindergarten in Pa U commune has a slight crack, so the district is sending a team to assess the current situation.

The Center for Earthquake Reporting and Tsunami Warning, Muong Te District, Lai Chau Province is an area with strong earthquake activity. Here in 2020, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake occurred, causing a plasterboard ceiling collapse at a kindergarten in Gieng village, Muong Te commune, injuring four children.

Lai Chau province as well as the entire Northwest region is home to many active faults such as Dien Bien - Muong Lay fault, Ma River - Tuan Giao - Lai Chau fault.

It's a bit bigger than a train window, but still has room for essentials.Also, our sleeping place is still much warmer than the makeshift tents.As for food, I and their daughter will be queuing at the station to wait for breakfast and dinner from humanitarian aid groups," Karan said.
