Monk Thich Nhuan Duc: rude to Khmer people, desperate to preach

Regarding the reflections and frustrations of public opinion about Venerable Nhuan Duc's rude words and attitude, after consideration, the Buddhist Church of Vietnam has unanimously decided to increase the disciplinary form for this person.

The virtuous monks discussed, examined the issue and agreed on increased disciplinary measures; After that, the monks practiced the main hall of repentance so that the litigant, Venerable Nhuan Duc, sincerely confessed his repentance for having rude words and attitudes towards the Khmer people in a video in 2023.

The leader of the Second Office of the Central Committee of the Church said that the clergy in charge of all denominations have agreed: Prohibit Venerable Nhuan Duc from preaching indefinitely, in any form.

At the same time, Venerable Nhuan Duc must sincerely repent to the Central Committee of the Church and the Southern Khmer Buddhist sect, apologize to Khmer compatriots and Buddhists. Venerable Nhuan Duc knelt down to repent before the Khmer monks, apologized to the Khmer people for their rude words and attitudes towards the Khmer people.

The Church also asked Venerable Nhuan Duc to perform special repentance in accordance with the Buddhist Law. The time limit for performing repentance will also be applied indefinitely until the Standing Committee of the Governing Council directs to change the measure of repentance.

The supervision of Venerable Nhuan Duc to enforce the discipline was assigned by the Church to the Board of Directors of the Vietnamese Buddhist Church in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province and the Board of Directors of the Protectorate of the Dharma family.

Venerable Nhuan Duc expressed his sincere repentance before the monks. Venerable Dao Nhu on behalf of the monks gave a strict vow to Venerable Nhuan Duc.

Previously, Venerable Thich Nhuan Duc was asked by the Church to separately repent and banned from preaching for a year due to the monk's offensive statements.

According to the Church Portal, the most objectionable sermon content of Nhuan Duc is the vulgar story of "birds with pants" and the statement "if you have offered, you will offer delicious food", which was spoken in front of a large number of Buddhists.

According to the conclusion of the Central Committee of the Buddhist Church, the statements and lectures of Venerable Thich Nhuan Duc have diminished the society's trust in Buddhism and the Church. The Board of Directors determined that on social networks over the past time, videos of Venerable Thich Nhuan Duc's speeches and lectures have been circulated that are contrary to Buddhist principles, teachings and canons. These videos also violate the preaching rules of the Central Dharma Committee.

At the meeting, Venerable Thich Nhuan Duc asked for repentance to the monks and the church. "I was taught wrong points by you. I am aware of my mistakes. I feel that there are too many mistakes and affect the prestige of the church, affect the solemn image of monks and nuns in general," Venerable Thich Nhuan Duc expressed in the penance letter.

Before getting involved in the noise on social media, Thich Nhuan Duc was known as a talented young monk, many people knew him from his close, easy-to-understand, and humane Buddhist teachings. He is a shining example for young people to help them towards the good values of life. Mr. Thich Nhuan Duc's real name is Nguyen Xuan Khanh, born in 1980 in the land of seven mountains in An Giang province. He was ordained in 2000 and currently, he is staying at Lam Bi Ni Pagoda in Dak Lak province.

Mr. Thich Nhuan Duc is currently the abbot of Lam Bi Ni Pagoda, which is a large temple in Dak Lak province, located on Tran Hung Dao Street, Tan An Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City. The pagoda was built in 1956, is a place to worship Buddha and organize many Buddhist activities.

Mr. Thich Nhuan Duc was appointed abbot of Lam Bi Ni Pagoda in 2016. Since returning to the abbot of the pagoda, he has made many contributions to the development of Buddhism in Dak Lak province. He regularly teaches Buddhism at the pagoda and many other places across the country. His lectures are loved by many people because of their closeness, ease of understanding, and imbued with humanity.

In addition to teaching Buddhism, Thich Nhuan Duc also participates in many social activities, such as charity, relief for people affected by natural disasters, he wishes to contribute to bringing a better life to everyone.
