Recently, Vegetarian Lion - a TikToker who owns nearly 620k followers suddenly was constantly mentioned by the online community.
His name even reached the top of the popular searched keywords on social media platforms.
For those who don't know, Vegetarian Leo's real name is Quach Thanh Lam (also known as Lam Quach), SN 1999, from Ho Chi Minh City. HCM. In 2019, Lam Quach participated in the Vietnam Fitness Model season 3 contest and won the first prize. After that, the guy continued to participate in the Male King of Universal Tourism Ambassador held in Malaysia later and won the runner-up position.
Currently, he is better known by the nickname Vegetarian Lion when sharing his vegan life and training methods on social media platforms. In addition, a healthy body and a healthy lifestyle also help the guy receive a lot of support and followers from netizens.
Talking about the fate of veganism, he said: "I myself have loved animals since I was a child. In mid-2015, I founded the SAR Animal Rescue Group. The group's job is simply to help, carry dogs/cats/monkeys/turtles... beaten, abandoned, sick... Up to now, SAR is still active, but I am no longer the main participant, only a little financial support.
After 1 year of SAR operation, I had the privilege of reading documents/books/movies about the meat industry, I felt very shocked. I continued to explore more and became more and more obsessed with these things. Until 1 day of sitting in front of my favorite steak, I no longer felt comfortable and didn't want to eat anymore. Since then, I have gradually learned about vegetarianism."
Faced with the idea of "how to go to the gym on a vegetarian diet", he frankly said: "This point of view is somewhat correct but outdated.
It is true that in the past, the majority of Vietnamese vegetarians were very poor in nutrition. All year round, boiled vegetables are dipped in soy sauce, so the body is weak.
The outdated is because nowadays there is a lot of nutritional knowledge, food is also rich and easy to find, so it is much easier to eat vegetarian or diet. Vegetarianism and gym training may seem strange in Vietnam, but in fact it is very popular in the world."
Regarding the view that vegetarianism is only for the rich, he countered: "I don't agree because maybe some people are misunderstanding healthy eating. Healthy eating is not about eating luxurious foods. The essence of healthy eating is just shifting the way you choose foods and prepare them. For example, from frying and grilling grease, you switch to sautéing, steaming, boiling, or instead of eating fried chicken, switch to oats and limit processed foods or sugary drinks. In addition, you have to exercise regularly.
The most important and fortunate thing is that we are living in Vietnam - a country that is mainly agricultural, so it is very easy and cheap to access nutrition from plants and vegetarian foods, most of which are agricultural products."
Many people commented that his cooking tutorial videos are fast-paced, creating a comfortable and easy-to-understand feeling. Lam Quach's video orientation not only focuses on vegetarian content but also expands the topic with three keyword phrases "eat green - live healthy - reduce waste".
He revealed that he likes to use products related to nuts: "For me, products from soybeans are very important such as tofu, tempeh (compressed paste) and especially soy milk because it is easy to find and highly nutritious. Soybeans are considered a very abundant source of protein for vegetarians.
In addition, soy products are easy to process and combine with other ingredients. For example, tofu can be marinated, braised, stir-fried... As for soy milk, in addition to drinking directly, it can be used as smoothies, cakes... both delicious and nutritious.
I also often drink Vinasoy's Fami soy milk because it is delicious, convenient and nutritious. Recently, I saw that Vinasoy has many new types of soy milk with many flavors such as mint-flavored soybeans, ginger milk, coffee, cheese... or pure Fami, low in sugar, quite suitable for many people who want to control sugar levels and eat healthy.
The habit of drinking soy milk is that I often drink it every other day. For example, today I drink soy milk, tomorrow I drink oat milk. I use about 400-500ml a day because my body is tall, you can reduce it according to each person's needs.
I recommend that you add 2 boxes of soy milk per day to have more healthy sources of plant protein. I follow the press, I see that this brand has many meaningful activities: donating milk to children, students, the poor, frontline workers against the epidemic... This shows that Vinasoy really cares about public health, which is very respectable."
With the theme of vegetarianism, he actively creates content that favors a green lifestyle, positively inspiring people to live for themselves, for the environment and for those around them.
Besides, his videos have made the online community form an additional habit, which is to read the packaging and ingredient list of products. This helps ensure the health safety of consumers and know which products will be suitable for each person's body and diet.
But recently, Vegetarian Lion has gone viral through clips related to KERA vegetable candies by Quang Linh Vlogs and Hang Du Muc.
He was also the one who asked questions about the fiber content in this vegetable candy and took the product to be tested himself to find the answer.
Specifically, Vegetarian Lion posted the first clip of "peeling" Kera vegetable candy, in order to warn users to be careful with an over-inflated product, on February 12.
On March 4, the male TikToker said that he took the initiative to bring Kera candy for inspection at the Technical Center for Standards - Metrology - Quality 2 (QUATEST 2) under the Directorate of Standards, Metrology and Quality - Ministry of Science and Technology. According to the results, he affirmed that even if he ate the whole box of candies (30 tablets, priced at about 149,000 VND), the fiber content was only 1/6 of a banana.
At that time, Vegetarian Lion was condemned by some netizens as "polishing his name" and "creating drama to go viral". However, many people sided with the southern TikToker, saying that this action was completely reasonable and contributed to protecting the interests of consumers.
The latest video of Vegetarian Leo talking about Kera vegetable candy was posted on March 22. He shared: "Up to now, about the true value of candy, everyone must have their own answer. Whoever believes it, just use it. I don't give an opinion."
The guy affirmed that he wanted to aim for consumers to better understand a product instead of just relying on advertising.
