A shocking incident has just been discovered by the authorities of Quang Ngai province: a facility has purchased and prepared to transport 72 pigs infected with swine fever to sell to food processing facilities in Gia Lai and Dong Nai.
Caught 72 infected pigs on the way to consumption
On the afternoon of July 17, the Economic Police Department of Quang Ngai Province Police coordinated with other functional forces to suddenly inspect a pig purchasing facility in Nghia Hanh Commune - a locality with a strong outbreak of African swine fever (ASF). Here, the functional forces discovered Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Duong (born in 1969) collecting and transporting a large number of pigs onto a car.
During the inspection, a total of 72 pigs were discovered (of which 69 were on the vehicle, with 5 dead, and the remaining 3 were locked in the barn). At the time of the inspection, Ms. Duong could not provide any documents proving the origin and quarantine of these pigs. This was the first sign of ambiguity in the business operations of the facility.
Conspiracy revealed: Sick pigs turned into "delicious" sausages?
During the process of working with the police, Ms. Duong confessed that all 72 pigs were purchased from traders and people right in Nghia Hanh commune - the epicenter of the epidemic. What is alarming is the purpose of purchasing these sick pigs: Ms. Duong planned to transport the infected pigs to Gia Lai and Dong Nai provinces to slaughter and resell to food processing facilities, especially sausages, to make a profit.
This admission has shocked public opinion, exposing an extremely dangerous practice. Introducing sick or even dead pigs into the food production chain poses a serious threat to consumer health. Chinese sausage is a popular and widely consumed dish.
If sausages are made from pigs infected with ASF, although the virus is not transmitted to humans, the processing of diseased meat can create conditions for other bacteria and pathogens to develop, causing food poisoning and other dangerous diseases for consumers.

21/22 samples tested positive for African swine fever: Alarming infection level
To have a basis for handling, the leaders of the Economic Police Department of Quang Ngai Provincial Police closely coordinated with the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Quang Ngai Province. These units randomly collected 22 samples of blood, lymph nodes, and pig spleens from the above shipment for testing.
The results from the Central Veterinary Diagnosis and Testing Center II - Diagnosis and Testing Station I in Da Nang have confirmed in a frightening way: up to 21 out of 22 samples were positive for the virus that causes African swine fever (ASFV).
This almost absolute positive rate shows that the entire batch of pigs that Ms. Duong purchased was highly infected. This not only confirms the seriousness of the incident but also shows the subject's disregard for the law and business ethics.
Strict handling and warning from authorities
Immediately after testing positive for African swine fever, on the same day, July 17, Ms. Luong Thi Kim Thuy, Nghia Hanh Commune Public Service Center, said that the team coordinated with the authorities to completely destroy the infected pigs according to regulations to prevent the spread of the disease.

The case file has been transferred to the competent authority to handle the transporter's administrative violation according to the law. The act of buying, selling, and transporting diseased animals without quarantine documents is a serious violation of regulations on disease prevention and food safety. The level of punishment can be very high, including fines and other forms of treatment depending on the nature and consequences caused.

Lieutenant Colonel Doan Duong, Deputy Head of the Economic Police Department of Quang Ngai Provincial Police, emphasized the importance of raising vigilance. He advised consumers to go to reputable slaughterhouses licensed by authorities when using pork and other daily food products. At the same time, when detecting animals or pigs of unknown origin or showing signs of disease, people should immediately report to authorities for timely prevention and handling in accordance with the law.
