The Sub-Department of Livestock, Veterinary Health and Fisheries of Binh Duong province has just inspected C.P Vietnam's food stores in the area. The results surprised many people.
On June 4, 2025, the Sub-Department of Livestock, Veterinary Health and Fisheries of Binh Duong province organized an irregular inspection of 9 stores and branches of the food business system of C.P Vietnam Joint Stock Company in the province. This is a move to clarify the suspicions related to the sale of sick pigs that have caused a stir in public opinion over the past time.
The inspection team has assessed the compliance with the legal regulations on food safety (food safety), and at the same time checked the conditions for preservation, processing, and origin of food products provided by C.P. 9 stores were inspected in the cities of Thu Dau Mot, Thuan An, Di An, Tan Uyen and Ben Cat.
According to the preliminary report, all inspected stores are operating seriously, fully complying with food safety regulations. The delegation has not recorded any cases of violations or abnormal signs related to the origin and control of products. In addition, during the inspection, there were no complaints from people about buying unhygienic food at these locations.
Previously, the case was "triggered" when Mr. L.Q.N (40 years old, residing in My Xuyen district, Soc Trang province), who used to be an employee of C.P Vietnam, publicly accused the company of selling sick pigs at C.P Fresh Shop My Xuyen. Mr. N. said that the images of sick pigs were taken in 2022. However, he quit his job in 2023.
C.P Vietnam initially denied the above information, considering it a slander to insult its reputation and affect business activities. But later, the company admitted the existence of the image of sick pigs.
C.P affirmed that these sick pigs have been treated according to regulations, destroyed properly and not put on the market for consumption, but only used to feed fish. However, the contradiction in the information from the company has caused a lot of skepticism in public opinion.
Soon after, many stores and supermarkets across the country temporarily stopped importing pork from C.P Vietnam to ensure the safety of consumers, putting great pressure on the company to be transparent and solve the problem.
In the face of complicated developments, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has issued a written request to the Ministry of Public Security to investigate and clarify the case related to C.P Vietnam Joint Stock Company. The Department of Livestock and Veterinary Health is assigned to preside over and coordinate with the authorities in Hau Giang, Soc Trang provinces and relevant units to review and verify in detail the case, especially the issue of veterinary officials stamping quarantine in contravention of regulations.
The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment emphasized that he would resolutely handle violations if any, avoiding irresponsible acts that affect the reputation of the livestock industry and the domestic food market. "Don't let the 'worm disturb the soup pot', the responsibility must be clarified and handled to the end," he said.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Deputy Director of the Department of Livestock and Veterinary Health, the quarantine mark on the pork carcass is important in confirming that the product has passed the inspection and is eligible for domestic consumption or export. The improper sealing, especially the square seal used for meat qualified for sale on the market, while the fact that sick pigs need to be destroyed, has raised suspicions about the mixing of meat of unknown origin.
The Law on Food Safety and veterinary regulations in Vietnam clearly stipulate the types of slaughter control marks, including round marks for heat-treated meat and conversion of use purposes, and triangle marks for diseased meat that must be destroyed. Violating these regulations not only violates the law but also directly affects the health of consumers.
The incident has made the public pay special attention to the issue of food safety management in the pork supply chain in Vietnam, especially from big brands such as C.P, which accounts for a large market share in the market.
In addition, the story also raises concerns about the strict control of food operations, storage, transportation and trading, in order to avoid the risk of spreading diseases, protect public health and ensure consumer rights.
The situation continues to be closely monitored by the authorities and it is expected that there will be detailed and transparent reports in the coming days to reassure public opinion and strengthen consumer confidence.
