More than 3 months have passed, the barge and ship sank causing many people to die and go missing, the cause is still unknown. The People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has approved the axis plan to serve the investigation.

On August 8, a representative of the Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority said that the unit is still continuing to coordinate with relevant agencies to investigate and clarify the cause of the sinking of the tugboat and barge that caused 4 deaths and 5 missing people occurred on the morning of April 24 in the sea area about 3 nautical miles from Ly Son Island (Quang Ngai).

"On May 17, the Quang Ngai Provincial Police prosecuted the case for violating regulations on control of waterway vehicles according to Article 272 of the Criminal Code... The People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has approved the plan to salvage the sunken tugboat and barge to serve the investigation," said a representative of the Quang Ngai Maritime Port Authority.

Currently, the tugboat and crawler excavator are sunk at a depth of 47.5m, in the waters about 3 nautical miles from Ly Son Island. Particularly, the overturned barge was towed to Ly Son Island. According to the survey of the salvage unit, at this time the hull of the tugboat was intact and in a vertical state, slightly tilted slightly compared to the seabed.

The terrain of the area where the tugboat sank was flat, the bottom was mainly sand, muddy sand and no reefs. It is expected that the salvage of barges and sunken ships will be carried out in about 10 days.

The construction unit will use a team of divers and specialized machinery to salvage. Divers will attach salvage buoys to the 4 corners of the tugboat. A high-capacity air pump is used to pump air into buoys to help tugboats float to the surface of the sea.

After that, divers will proceed to pump the water in the sunken ship out; check for punctures around the ship to prevent punctures in the hull and hull of the tugboat and no more seawater entering the ship's tank compartments to ensure that the ship floats stably on the water. Finally, the tugboat will be towed to shore.

"We are very happy to hear that the authorities will salvage the tugboat for investigation. Hopefully, when the investigation results are available, it will clarify the cause of the incident, handle the responsibility of the business and related parties, causing the incident to be particularly serious," said a representative of the family of the victim of the sinking of the tugboat and barge.

Previously, as reported by the Lao Dong Newspaper, at about 4 o'clock on April 24, a tugboat with the number LA-06695 pulling the barge LA-06883 (chartered by Ly Tuan Co., Ltd. of Minh Linh Co., Ltd., accompanied by 3 operating personnel who are captain, chief engineer and sailor) was on the way to carry stones from Ky Ha port to construct the breakwater of Ben Dinh port (Ly Son district).

According to the departure dossier, there were 5 crew members on the tugboat. When the tugboat and barge arrived at the sea area about 3 nautical miles from Ly Son Island, an incident occurred. The barge LA-06883 capsized causing the tugboat LA-06695 to sink, and the passengers on board lost contact.

Later, rescuers found the bodies of 4 crew members. However, all 4 victims were not named in the list of seafarers declared before leaving the port. Meanwhile, 5 seafarers carrying out departure procedures with the port authority are still missing.

On the side of Ly Tuan Co., Ltd., they denied any involvement with the 4 victims found, saying that they did not know who the 4 victims found were, what they boarded the ship for...!

On May 17, 2024, the Quang Ngai Provincial Police issued a Decision to prosecute the case of a waterway accident in which a barge tugboat sank killing 4 people and missing 5 people for violating regulations on control of waterway vehicles according to Article 272 of the Criminal Code. At the same time, the authorities are asking Minh Linh One Member Co., Ltd. to salvage the tug LA-06695 to complete the examination.
