Director Thanh Hiep also confirmed information that artist Thanh Duoc passed away on November 17 in San Jose, California, USA. Today is also the 7th death anniversary of Meritorious Artist Ut Bach Lan.
MC Thanh Tung - adopted son of artist Thanh Duoc, said that in the last days of his life, his relatives took care of him when he was old and weak. "I saw my father's face one last time before the family took him to the funeral home. At that time, the male artist was known as the "throneless king", "stage king" and "top singer" in the Southern Cai Luong theater scene.
When he was young, he followed his uncle (Cai Luong theater director Thanh Can) to learn singing and began performing on stage in 1954. The artist attracted attention with the role of To Dien Son in the play When the Cherry Blossoms Bloom. He used to sing in Kim Chuong troupes, Thanh Minh - Thanh Nga troupes...
In 1961, he married Meritorious Artist Ut Bach Lan. Artists Thanh Duoc and Ut Bach Lan belong to the class of artists who became famous when Cai Luong theater entered a period of truly professional and flourishing development. Among the first stars, they are two outstanding stars with outstanding and different charisma.
They became a famous couple in the plays: Hang's Daughter, The Heart of the Sea, Sea Foam, Eternal Spring Love... Among them, the play Half a Life of Fragrance especially left a mark in the hearts of the audience.
By 1964, Thanh Duoc and Ut Bach Lan's marriage broke down. He married his next wife named Lien and lived happily until the end of his life.
In 1984, Thanh Duoc toured Germany and settled here. In 1995, he went to the US to open a restaurant in California. In the last years of his life, the male artist lived comfortably and happily with his wife.
In 2007, Thanh Duoc and Ut Bach Lan reunited for a performance in the US. The two reenacted their once-in-a-lifetime roles in Half-Life. Since then, they had no chance to meet again when "sorrowful woman" Ut Bach Lan passed away in 2016 due to illness.
During a visit to artist Thanh Duoc in 2017, People's Artist Le Thuy emotionally said that despite his old age, the male artist always expressed his nostalgia for the audience and the stage. He wanted to return to his country to perform his farewell performance on stage, but his health did not allow it.
