This is said to be a move in response to the accusation of "ILLIT copying NewJeans" that Min Hee Jin has highlighted recently. BELIFT LAB quoted the video recording of ADOR CEO Min Hee Jin in a press conference on April 25 from which it summarized the thesis and images proving that there was no copying between the two groups ILLIT and NewJeans as alleged.
Since the end of April, the civil war of HYBE Group has exposed the downsides of Kpop, and the most "stoned" problem is copying concepts between two groups and the same group. The debut of ILLIT is a "drop in the glass" that sparked an internal battle between Min Hee Jin and HYBE.
ILLIT was launched under BELIFT LAB on March 25, 2024, with the theme music video Magnetic and E.P Super Real Me. The group follows a youthful, dreamy and feminine image. The image part is taken over by former Vogue Korea creative director - Serian Heu. From the beginning, ILLIT has been compared to NewJeans because of the great similarity from age, 5-member lineup to characteristics in terms of concept creativity and choreography. Being directly criticized by Min Hee Jin as a "parody group" caused ILLIT's reputation to decline seriously.
In the 27-minute video, BELIFT LAB repeatedly mentions the issue of "not copying concepts". Notably, this company also analyzes the images of a series of leading girl groups such as BLACKPINK, NewJeans, IVE,... This is to affirm that ILLIT has its own story and inspiration, not overlapping with NewJeans.
Specifically, BELIFT LAB identified the concept of 4 music groups as follows:
NewJeans: Even though she is still a teenager, she is a romantic object in the imagination of adults.
BLACKPINK: The perfect celebrity you can't touch.
IVE: Every member is like a doll, worthy of envy like a princess.
ILLIT: Girls who love what is unfinished, are not fantasy girls created by adults.
Not stopping, BELIFT LAB also collaged a series of image and choreography details of NewJeans to compare with other artists in Kpop. Especially with the Mexican Jeans group. Previously, NewJeans was "borrowed" by a series of details from the Y2K style of the Mexican girl group, creating a fierce debate on social media.
According to the management company ILLIT, NewJeans must also have references from many other artists. "If it's plagiarism, isn't NewJeans also inspired or learned from groups such as BLACKPINK, BTS, ENHYPEN, LE SSERAFIM, GFRIEND, IZ*ONE, Sunmi, IVE, NMIXX, Oh My Girl, Triple S, VIVIZ, LABOUM, DIA, PRISTIN... this?", BELIFT LAB asked.
After releasing the vindication video, the management company ILLIT announced that it had filed a lawsuit against Min Hee Jin.
These moves of BELIFT LAB were met with opposition from the fan community. BELIFT LAB also repeated the problem of "shouting the name of Kpop" as a fulcrum for itself. Unrelated artists are dragged in to make bulletproof beers, and they are involved in unnecessary marketing.
Many people criticized BELIFT LAB as if it was "acting out", especially when a series of evidence accusing NewJeans of plagiarism was presented unconvincingly. Typically, the company accused NewJeans of learning NMIXX's Love Me Like This choreography for Ditto. But in reality, Love Me Like This debuted 3 months after Ditto. BELIFT LAB also edited the actual color of the photos of the groups wearing Hanbok, to show that NewJeans also "followed suit". Even when BELIFT LAB used BLACKPINK's debut photo to compare with NewJeans, the former YG director also retorted, "Not the same".
In the midst of being played badly by the company and the corporation, NewJeans was suddenly ironized for appearing disappointing in 2 days and 1 night.
According to Nielsen Korea, the June 9 episode of "2 Days & 1 Night" season 4 â featuring girl group NewJeans â recorded a disappointing viewership of 6.1 percent.
This is the lowest rating of "2 Days & 1 Night" this year when episode 229 aired on June 2 had a rating of 7.1%, while episode 228 aired on May 26 had a rating of 8.3%.
Ten Asia added that the ratings for NewJeans' appearance episode are unprecedented, raising doubts about the effect of the group being ineffective, at least in the field of variety shows.
