In an incident that shocked the K-pop fan community recently, a male sasaeng fan in his 20s was prosecuted for repeatedly illegally breaking into the old dormitory of the famous band NewJeans and committing theft.
According to a statement from the Seoul Western District Prosecutor's Office, the man identified as A was convicted (not in custody) on April 25 on charges related to property trespassing and theft of property.
The investigation revealed that A broke into NewJeans' former dormitory in Yongsan District, Seoul on December 21, 2023, stealing many items left behind such as clothes hangers, banners, and some other items. Notably, this is not the first time A has committed this act. Previously, on December 18, A also sneaked into the residence through an unlocked door.
More worryingly, the NewJeans group has officially left this dormitory since November 2023 after terminating the contract with the management company ADOR. Although the building is no longer occupied, illegal trespassing still poses serious privacy and safety concerns for idols.
The incident became even more remarkable when there were many similarities with an anonymous post of a threatenin.g nature that went viral on an online forum in August 2023. The article claimed to have "identified the location of NewJeans' dormitory" and left open the possibility of carrying out dangerous actions. Currently, the authorities have not confirmed the relationship between the poster and A, but the coincidence of the timing makes fans worried.
In addition, the case took place in a sensitive context when NewJeans was entangled in a legal contract dispute with ADOR. The group had planned to change its name to "NJZ" in order to separate from the parent company, but ADOR's legal actions prevented all solo activities of the members. The court sided with ADOR, confirming the validity of the exclusive contract and issuing a ban on the signing of individual advertising contracts by each member, forcing the group to suspend independent activities.
On April 26, ADOR issued a warning about "unauthorized fan accounts that are trying to collect personal information of each fan based on the reason of the demand survey", indirectly referring to the unofficial fan club of NewJeans, called Team Bunnies.
Earlier this week, Indomie Mi Goreng announced that the exclusive NewJeans pop-up will be open from May 1 to 13, at Sungsu-dong, at Sungsu Station Exit 3. Shortly after the announcement, Team Bunnies revealed that they would be holding an online ordering demand survey for the special pop-up postcard set, and also announcing photos of the postcard set as well as photos of the pop-up order.
At first, many fans were confused by the announcement of the pop-up from Team Bunnies, as NewJeans is currently suspending promotional activities, due to the group's legal dispute with ADOR. In response to this move, on the afternoon of April 26, ADOR stated: "The members of NewJeans are currently cooperating with Indomie as the brand's official advertising model. the upcoming pop-up is being hosted by a partner company after prior approval by ADOR.
ADOR wants to clarify that the company does not engage in any communication with fan accounts, such as asking fan accounts to promote pop-up events or gather information about consumer needs. However, we have confirmed that some unauthorized fan accounts and fan communities are trying to collect people's personal information under the pretext of on-demand surveys.
At this time, we ask fans to be cautious so that no one suffers damage." According to Allkpop, based on the above statement, it is clear that ADOR is indirectly disparaging Team Bunnies, and at the same time warning fans not to provide their information to "unauthorized fan accounts".
Some netizens also expressed their concerns about an unofficial fan club like Team Bunnies participating in NewJeans' official activities through ADOR. While others think that it may be Indomie who contacted Team Bunnies first.
But Team Bunnies, which has always been more supportive of NewJeans members (Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, Hyein) than ADOR, has been involved in promoting the pop-up.

HYBE announced the dismissal of Min Hee Jin due to the discovery of this woman's conspiracy to seize ADOR and NewJeans. The two sides have constantly struggled and blocked each other, occupying the media waves for the past half a year.
