Vinh Phuc Province, which has caused a stir in handling traffic violations, has turned a new page when the provincial traffic police used a surveillance camera system to fine a series of vehicles for violations, including hundreds of cars speeding.

Lieutenant Colonel Cao Van Thinh, Deputy Head of the Vinh Phuc Traffic Police Department, said that the province has now installed more than 200 surveillance cameras at key locations, especially on national highways and complex traffic points. This system not only helps detect traffic violations such as running red lights and not wearing helmets, but also closely monitors speeding vehicles.

"From November 15, 2024 to now, the surveillance camera system has detected and handled hundreds of traffic violations, including 143 speeding cars. The total fines for these cars amounted to more than 236 million VND," Lieutenant Colonel Thinh shared.

By using modern technology, images and videos from surveillance cameras are collected and processed quickly. This helps Vinh Phuc Traffic Police not only increase the effectiveness of handling violations but also reduce unfairness in punishment, when all violating vehicles are recorded accurately and publicly.

Fines for speeding violations are clearly defined according to each level of speeding. According to Decree 100/2019/ND-CP and its amendments, for speeding from 5 km/h to under 10 km/h, the fine ranges from VND800,000 to VND1 million. However, the fine will increase sharply for speeding violations above 20 km/h, with a fine of up to VND6 - 8 million and the driver's license may be revoked for 2 to 4 months.

In particular, according to Decree 168/2024/ND-CP, effective from January 1, 2025, the fine for serious speeding violations can be up to VND22 million, and violators will also have many points deducted from their driving license. This not only causes financial pressure but also affects the driver's ability to control the vehicle, forcing them to accept long-term consequences.

Among the 143 speeding cars, some were fined at very high levels, for exceeding 20 km/h, with fines ranging from VND6 million to VND8 million. These fines are considered a "painful" blow to car owners, because in addition to the fine, they also face points being deducted from their driving licenses. Each violation is a strong mark on the "death list" of drivers, forcing them to rethink their habit of driving fast and without control.

According to information from the Vinh Phuc Traffic Police Department, the vehicles that violate the law are mainly large vehicles such as trucks, passenger cars, and cars. These vehicles often travel on national highways and tend to speed to save time or try to finish work sooner.

These vehicles, when participating in traffic, sometimes do not pay attention to the speed limits on the roads. The surveillance camera system quickly detects and records these behaviors, regardless of whether the driver tries to avoid them or not.

Lieutenant Colonel Cao Van Thinh emphasized that the fines not only help reduce traffic violations but also create a safer traffic environment for people. He affirmed: "Handling traffic violations through the camera surveillance system is an important step forward in traffic management in Vinh Phuc province, helping to reduce violations, especially speeding, one of the main causes of traffic accidents."

With the rise of technology and the determination of the Vinh Phuc Traffic Police, the handling of traffic violations has not only become more accurate and transparent, but also helped create a safer and more civilized traffic environment for everyone. The advent of the surveillance camera system has contributed significantly to improving the efficiency of handling traffic violations, especially speeding violations, helping to "clean up" "unruly" vehicles and bring fairness to all traffic participants.
