Recently, after a series of checks, reviewing business activities, making money from social networking platforms, a fairly large youtube channel owner in Quang Ninh was honored to be invited by the police to eat cake and drink tea because of his behavior. tax evasion.
Specifically, it is the owner of a Youtube channel called Thai Chuoi TV, who has just been requested by the authorities to collect personal income tax, because he has a huge income when he earns 11 billion dong within 4 years.
According to information on the Lao newspaper, on April 22, the police of Dam Ha district, Quang Ninh province said that the authorities discovered a case living in the district who is the owner of the YouTube channel Thai Chuoi TV, with the mark not declare and pay taxes. The police identified the YouTube channel owner as Mr. D.VT (local).
The district police reported to the provincial police leadership and coordinated with the Economic Security Department to verify and clarify information.
On April 20, 2022, after working with the Public Security Authority, this case admitted that the tax obligation had not been fulfilled, and at the same time provided the police agency with documents related to the income from the channel. YouTube and advertising for 4 years (2018-2022), a surprising number of more than 11 billion VND.
According to current statistics, Thai Chuoi TV youtube channel has more than 875,000 followers. This channel often uploads challenging videos, survival videos in life... including many videos that attract up to nearly 5 million views. In addition to the YouTube platform, this channel owner also has a social networking site Facebook with nearly 25,000 followers.
Quang Ninh Provincial Police also said that individuals who receive income from organizations such as Facebook, Google, YouTube ... are classified as business individuals. According to current regulations, if the income from business is from 100 million VND a year or more, it must pay tax. The tax rate is 7% on income (including 5% value added tax, 2% personal income tax). Talking to Thanh Nien, lawyer Tran Minh Cuong (of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union) said that in order to create justice and social security, people with income on social networking platforms Facebook, YouTube... must list declare and fulfill tax payment responsibilities to the State according to regulations.
"Currently, Vietnam has a tax rate on income from social networking platforms of 7%. This is a relatively low level compared to other countries, like the US which can be up to 30%. Therefore, the Individuals making money from social networking platforms Facebook and YouTube need to be proactive and honest in declaring and paying taxes according to regulations to avoid possible legal risks," said LS Minh Cuong.
Thus, the unpaid tax of the YouTube channel owner alone can be up to 700-800 million VND, in addition, the act of tax evasion may be sanctioned according to current regulations.
Currently, Quang Ninh tax units are coordinating with functional forces to consider and calculate to collect the tax that the owner of the above YouTube channel must pay.
In fact, revenue on technology platforms like YouTube, many individuals earn billions, even up to tens of billions of dong/month, but many individuals have "forgotten" to pay taxes.
Therefore, the tax industry needs to take strong measures to recover this lost tax amount, which forces the operator to be responsible for paying tax on behalf of the income earner.
In the past few years, the Tax Department of Ho Chi Minh City has continuously discovered many cases where individuals have "terrible" income from online businesses or generate revenue from personal YouTube but "forget" to declare tax.
Typically, the Tax Department of Ho Chi Minh City discovered an individual YouTube channel with an income of 19 billion VND from 2016 - 2018; Another case received an income of 41 billion dong from Google, Facebook, and YouTube in just 2 years 2016 - 2017. Through the inspection, Ho Chi Minh City Tax Department also discovered an individual in Quang Nam province with an income of 17 billion dong and cooperated with the Tax Department of Quang Nam province to collect the tax amount as prescribed.
Previously, the tax industry only collected taxes on these individuals directly, now technology companies like YouTube are responsible for collecting and paying taxes on behalf of individuals who have revenue on this platform. Currently, there are individuals who voluntarily declare and pay taxes, but there are also many individuals who are inspected and arrears by the tax authorities to pay taxes in accordance with the law.
YouTubers as well as organizations and individuals doing business on digital platforms must voluntarily declare and pay taxes, in case they refuse to declare and pay personal income tax, they will be fined 1-3 times the tax amount. closed and may be subject to criminal prosecution. Hopefully, in addition to creating content, YouTube channel owners should also fulfill their responsibilities and obligations as a citizen, so that the digital space is really a clean and healthy place.
