After 1 month in intensive care, baby T.G.H. (SN 2019) - the most serious pediatric patient in the bread poisoning case in Dong Nai did not survive.
Earlier, while in emergency at Dong Nai Children's Hospital, the boy had experienced cardiac arrest and apnea. After an inter-hospital consultation, due to his severe condition, the pediatric patient was transferred to Children's Hospital 1 at noon on May 4, 2024.
At Children's Hospital 1 Intensive Care Unit, baby T.G.H. remains in serious condition, with multiple organ damage, brain damage, continues to receive resuscitation and dialysis, mechanical ventilation, and a severe prognosis. Despite doctors' efforts, the child did not survive after more than a month of intensive treatment.
The death of the 5-year-old has left many watching the bread poisoning case in mourning. An atmosphere of mourning enveloped the old house in Xuan Hoa Ward, Long Khanh City (Dong Nai) after T.G.H. died.
Sharing with the press, Mr. Thang - the father of baby H. still cannot believe that his son has died forever from poisoning after eating meatloaf. According to the father, that day the whole family bought 7 loaves of meat bread at Ms. Bing's shop (Xuan Binh ward, Long Khanh city) for 8 people. Everyone after eating bread was poisoned, but little G.H. unfortunately suffered the most.
"A few days ago, my wife and I discussed sending me to audition school for 3 months to prepare for Grade 1, but I didn't expect the plan to be unfinished," Mr. Thang lamented.
When he received the news that he did not survive, Child H.'s grandfather rushed from Chau Doc City (An Giang) to go swimming in the night to see his face for the last time. He said that H. was a good child, and in his spare time he often invited his mother to temples.
Little H.'s grandfather couldn't help but choke: "Little H. is very cute and easy to eat. Whenever the afternoon comes, her mother often calls, when she sees her grandfather eating rice, she tells her mother to prepare rice for her. The innocent, still lispy voice of the soon-to-be 1st grader is adorable, and now...!!"
Previously, on April 30, B. Bakery, Tran Quang Dieu Street, Quarter 2, Xuan Binh Ward, Long Khanh City sold more than 1,000 loaves of meatloaf to customers.
By the morning of May 1, many people who ate the shop's bread had symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting, so they were hospitalized, then gradually increased to more than 500 people, including some severe cases who had to be transferred to the upper line.
After the incident, the functional forces of Dong Nai province and Long Khanh city inspected and found that the bakery did not have a business license, no certificate of food safety eligibility.
Working with the authorities of Dong Nai province, Ms. Bing, the owner of her family's bread shop, has been in business for nearly 20 years and nothing unusual has happened. So, after this incident, the family is very worried.
Ms. Bang, the owner of Bing's bread shop in Xuan Binh ward, Long Khanh city, said the establishment buys ingredients from markets and acquaintance shops so there are no receipts. In which homemade pate (pork liver, fatty meat), homemade pickles (carrots, white radish), homemade sauces (including pork broth, seasoning seeds, MSG, soy sauce). Other ingredients such as silk rolls, pork ... purchased from elsewhere, not reprocessed.
"Pate is prepared and cooked on the porch; Sweet and sour food is prepared in the tap near the freezer in the house. The brass is washed, but we have not sorted the brass for cooked and living items separately," Ms. Bing's husband said.
Due to the large number of customers, the establishment arranges two clerks to cut cakes, reduce pate, meat, silk rolls or sweet and sour goods depending on request, while another person collects money. All sellers wear gloves. "The preliminary processing and sales process has been going on like 20 years, we have never suspected a similar poisoning," Ms. Bing said.
At the time of the inspection on May 2, authorities sealed the freezer at the facility, with about 15 kg of sour food, 1 kg of processed pork, 1 kg of silk rolls, 4 pate trays weighing 10 kg. The salon has been shut down. Authorities are tracing the origin of the ingredients and food, as well as testing samples for the cause of the poisoning.
According to the victims, the Ice bread shop is delicious and cheap, so it is popular with many people. Every day this bread cart sells more than 1,000 loaves, of which in the morning usually 500 and in the afternoon 600.
Many people from Xuan Loc or Thong Nhat districts, even 20 km away, still come to buy. "Because there is a bread cart that many people buy, they often have to queue, sometimes stuck in traffic in the whole alley," said Hien, a patient in the poisoning case.
Tests of specimens from patients in the poisoning case showed Salmonella and E. coli. The test results of food samples taken at Co Bang bread establishment recorded that 4/8 samples had Salmonella bacteria. The incident had criminal signs, so the authorities transferred the file to the police of Long Khanh city, Dong Nai province for investigation.
