The picture of a wife desperately trying to resuscitate her husband with Covid-19 but failed has shocked the world. The photo quickly went viral on social media and became a symbol for millions of people here who are helplessly watching Covid-19 take the lives of loved ones.
Renu and his wife's rickshaw went all the way to Sree Ram Hospital, Saket Hospital, and KG Nursing Center and could not find an empty bed. She continued to take him to Sarojini Naidu Hospital (SNMC). Ravi's condition was getting worse and worse, he was panting and tired. In a desperate attempt, Renu tried to revive her husband with her mouth. But Ravi couldn't stand it. He died in his wife's arms among the cars parked on the hospital grounds.
The picture of a wife desperately trying to resuscitate her husband with Covid-19 but failed has shocked the world. The photo quickly went viral on social media and became a symbol for millions of people here who are helplessly watching Covid-19 take the lives of loved ones.
The wife in that viral photo is Renu Singhal, a resident of Agra, Uttar Pradesh state. Her husband Ravi Singhal (47 years old) contracted Covid-19 and due to the inability to find a hospital bed and oxygen, the man died not long after. The photo of Renu helplessly trying to save her husband with Covid-19 broke many hearts.
No words can fully describe the meaning of this photo. More than pyre, this photo shows the struggle, helplessness and fighting spirit to the last breath, one net user commented.
Recently, the 45-year-old wife in the photo above spoke for the first time about the painful and unforgettable memory in her life. She shared: My husband had to be isolated at home with a high fever, he constantly complained of difficulty breathing. I tried calling the support hotline but no one responded. I had to ask a rickshaw driver to help take my husband to the hospital in the city.
Before her husband's death, Renu took her partner to at least 4 different hospitals, but all they received was a wave of rejection. When she arrived at SN Medical College, she found the hospital was already overwhelmed while her husband was dying, life was measured in seconds.
I was asked to bring an oxygen tank and he would be admitted to the hospital. They have no more oxygen. I tried to get help but there was no one around to offer help, Renu said.
When she saw her husband almost unconscious, the wife panicked and did everything she could to fight Death. She gave her husband CPR in the trailer before taking a bottle of water and pouring it on Ravi, begging him not to die.
I cried out in desperation: I have no one by my side Ravi, please don't leave me alone, Renu recounts the darkest moment of her life. Despite this, all efforts of Ms. Renu were in vain, Mr. Ravi died in his wife's arms.
Not only Ms. Renu and her husband, but images of patients collapsing due to lack of oxygen and hospital beds have appeared all over India as the country struggles in the midst of a second wave of Covid-19 infections.
The second wave of Covid-19 is engulfing India in mourning and pain. Many hospitals fell into overcrowding, medical staff were exhausted both physically and mentally, and families were torn apart by witnessing the death of loved ones one after another but were powerless to do anything.
Masses of Covid-19 patients are desperately cramming each other at the entrances of hospitals to beg for help, but the doctors themselves are powerless. Running out of hospital beds, running out of oxygen and medicine, many hospitals in India have to choose to remove the breathing tubes of the weaker elderly to give oxygen to save the lives of young people.
On May 2, Indian officials also said that the country recorded an additional 3,689 Covid-19 patients who died in 24 hours. This is India's record number of daily deaths to date, while the number of infections nears the milestone of 400,000 new cases.
