The gir.l group has now surpassed 50 million followers on Spotify, extending their records as both "Most Followed Gir.l Group" and "Most Followed Female K-pop Artist in the Platform's History".
Blackpink's achievements do not stop there as they have joined pop legends Taylor Swift, Ariana Grande, Billie Eilish, Rihanna, Adele and Selena Gomez to become the only female artists in history to surpass 50 million followers on Spotify.
Additionally, Blackpink's "Don't Know What To Do" became their 17th song to surpass 300 million streams on Spotify, making them the gir.l group with the most songs to reach this figure on the Spotify platform.
Previously, Blackpink achieved a new streaming achievement on Spotify with the song "As If It's Your Last" just surpassed 600 million streams on this platform, becoming the group's 7th song to surpass the 600 million mark. With the new milestone, Blackpink is now crowned "the gir.l group with the most songs surpassing this number on Spotify".
Blackpink's songs that have now surpassed 600 million streams on Spotify are "How You Like That", "Kill This Love", "Pink Venom", "DDU-DU DDU-DU", "Shut Down", "Kiss and Make Up" and "As If It's Your Last".
Debuting in the summer of 2016, the four-member group has garnered much attention as YG Entertainment's first gir.l group in seven years since 2NE1. BlackPink has achieved some incredible milestones along the way.
To commemorate their anniversary, the group released the concert film Blackpink World Tour [Born Pink] In Cinemas on July 31. The film brings the group's concerts from last year to the screen. The group traveled to 34 different countries for about 66 concerts in front of over 1.8 million fans, becoming the K-pop gir.l group with the largest audience on a world tour.
Pop culture critic Kim Do Heon said BlackPink has changed the perception of K-pop artists in the global music market.
"In the past, when K-pop groups entered the global music market, they were seen as rivals trying to compete with their music... But BlackPink has attracted attention, showing off an image and appearance worthy of the reputation of pop stars.
"They have created an image that many people aspire to, on par with Western pop stars, which makes them remarkable," he said.
Last year, the group made history again by becoming the first Asian artist to perform at Coachella Valley, one of the largest music festivals in the US, and the first K-pop artist to perform at the UK's major festival, BST Hyde Park.
"With each member's unique image and personality, as well as their confident attitude expressed in their music, the group has built a successful career, surpassing the boundaries of a group to become their own brand," said critic Kim.
In 2023, the members renewed their contracts with YG Entertainment for group activities, while confirming their separation to separate. Jennie was the first to establish her own label, Odd Atelier, in December last year. Lisa and Jisoo followed suit with their own labels, Lloud and BLISSOO, respectively, while Rosé signed with The Black Label, managed by Teddy, BlackPink's "favorite" producer.
