Korea's top girl group BlackPink has just made Kpop fans excited with the news that the group officially set a new record, surpassing a series of famous groups to achieve this. This is also an achievement, repositioning the group's name.
According to Korean media, on March 21, Blackpink's music video (MV) released in 2022, "Shut Down", surpassed 600 million views on YouTube. This helps Blackpink become the first K-pop girl group to have 11 music videos surpassing this milestone.
"Shut Down" achieved the milestone of 600 million views after music videos such as: " DDU-DU DDU-DU," "BOOMBAYAH," "As If It's Your Last," " Kill This Love," " How You Like That ," "Playing with Fire," "Whistle," "Ice Cream," "Lovesick Girls" and "Pink Venom."
Blackpink originally released the music video for "Shut Down" at 1pm on September 16, 2022. Meaning, it took the team just over a year, six months and four days to reach this milestone. This achievement helps Blacpkink strengthen its position in the K-pop music industry and surpass its contemporaries such as TWICE and Red Velvet.
Previously in September 2023, according to Naver, Blackpink became the first Korean artist to have 4 videos reaching over 1.5 billion views on YouTube. This achievement is even better than the group BTS.
The Korean girl group owns 4 video clips with more than 1.5 billion views on YouTube channel including DDU-DU DDU-DU (2.1 billion views), Kill This Love (1.8 billion views), BOOMBAYAH (1.6 billion views) and How You Like That Dance Performance (1.5 billion views). Among them, two videos , DU DDU-DU and Kill This Love , hold the record for the most viewed videos by a Kpop group (Korean youth music) on YouTube.
Most recently, on March 12, Blackpink's hit song "How You Like That" surpassed 1 billion streams on the world's largest music streaming platform Spotify, becoming the first song by a girl group. Kpop achieved this milestone. "How You Like That" was released in June 2020. Up to now, the song has taken nearly 4 years to reach 1 billion streams.
In all of Kpop, "How You Like That" is the second song by a female artist to achieve this achievement, after the solo song "Money" by Lisa (Blackpink). Globally, Blackpink, along with Fifth Harmony and Spice Girls, became the only girl group in history to have a song reach 1 billion streams on Spotify.
Blackpink is a Korean girl group established in 2016 and managed by YG Entertainment. The group includes 4 female members including Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé and Lisa.
During 7 years of artistic activities, the group released 2 albums and conducted 2 global tours. The group currently possesses many remarkable achievements in the music field and a strong mark in the fashion field.
The group's global tour called Born Pink just ended in September and reached more than 265 million USD in revenue, making them the girl group with the highest touring revenue in the world today.
International media has repeatedly praised Blackpink as the biggest girl group in the world. Last year, Blackpink caused a media storm when they became the first Korean artist to take on the role of main performer (headliner) of America's top music festival, Coachella.
At the end of 2023, all four Blackpink members decided not to renew their individual contracts with YG Entertainment, while they re-signed their group contracts. Currently, three members Jennie, Lisa and Jisoo have announced the establishment of their own company to develop their solo careers. Recently, Blackpink gained attention when the members established their own companies one by one and turned to acting.
