At around 9:30 p.m., the Traffic Police team checked a motorbike running on Luy Ban Bich Street when they saw a 37-year-old man driving the vehicle who appeared drunk. Initially, this person did not comply with the request from the Traffic Police until a long time later they could be persuaded. As a result, after blowing into the alcohol meter, this person had an alcohol level of up to 0.808 mg/L of breath (double the maximum violation level).

This person said that after going to work from Linh Xuan overpass (Thu Duc), before returning home, he had a drink and drank a few cans. Because I felt I was still alert enough to control the vehicle, I kept going.

After working with the Traffic Police for a while, the violator only provided information such as name and age. After that, this person suddenly took his belongings and left.

Also on this evening, Traffic Police officers discovered a young man about 30 years old showing signs of violation. However, when asked to present documents for initial administrative inspection, this person continuously avoided it. After that, he repeatedly used the excuse of needing to buy medicine to avoid the inspection: "I'll go out here and buy a pill to take the pain away and then I'll come back and blow it."

However, the Traffic Police still diligently persuaded him to comply with the inspection before going to buy medicine. As a result, the police discovered 0.417 mg/L of breath containing alcohol.

In just 1 hour, the working group checked 390 cases. Including 110 cars and 280 motorbikes. As a result, 12 violations were recorded. Among these, many drivers said they knew that the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Police were conducting alcohol testing, but because they traveled short distances, they were subjective or only had 1-2 social drinks or went to a year-end party after work. so still drive.

A Tan Son Nhat traffic police officer said that many motorbike drivers intentionally made excuses and did not sign the record to avoid fines, wasting the force's time. Some drivers did not comply with blowing through the plastic funnel for fear of spreading disease even though the police explained that this was safe.

In addition, some cases leave behind low-value motorbikes instead of having to pay a fine. "For these cases, the force will follow the regulations to record the highest penalty to serve as a deterrent," the police said.

Increasing alcohol testing during the upcoming New Year and Lunar New Year was requested by the Prime Minister in early December to reduce traffic accidents.

From mid-November 2023, Ho Chi Minh City Police will open an inspection and handle alcohol concentration violations until the Lunar New Year. In the past month, nearly 2,300 drivers have been fined and their driver's licenses revoked, including many cases where fines were recorded during the day.

Statistics show that in 2023, the whole country will have a record high of 770,000 alcohol violations, an increase of one and a half times compared to last year.
