A 7.8-magnitude earthquake took place in the early morning hours of February 6 in Turkey and Syria, causing heavy damage both in terms of people and properties for these two countries.
According to the Turkish Emergency and Disaster Response Agency (AFAD), so far 5,775 buildings have been destroyed and 20,426 people injured in the event. In addition, the number of people who have not survived has surpassed the threshold of 5,200 people, of which Turkey has identified 3,549 people, and in Syria at least 1,712, but sadly this number continues to increase.
Rescuers are also racing against time to save those trapped in collapsed buildings. Recently, on Twitter, a volunteer working for the United Nations shared the moment of rescuing a girl and her brother trapped after an earthquake. Mohamad Safa, a representative of the Patriotic Vision NGO, posted on Twitter: "A 7-year-old girl protected her brother's head with her hands for 17 hours until the rescue team found her. I saw two sisters. Luckily both were rescued and got out safely." Mr. Safa also urged people to share the video above to give hope to many people in the area affected by the earthquake on February 6.
The photo of a 7-year-old girl using her hand to protect her brother's head after being shared on social networks has received great attention. Everyone thinks this is truly a miracle. Even more remarkable, when she saw the lifeguard, she earnestly said: "Please get my sisters out of here, I promise to repay at all costs". Make everyone emotional because of politeness. However, at the moment, the girl is not as lucky as her brother, when her health deteriorates and there is a possibility of having to lose a leg.
The Guardian reported that by the time the rescue team was taken out, the younger brother was safe, but his sister was seriously injured. Police Rahal, one of the people who saved the girl, said that because of the lack of specialized rescue equipment, they had to use many methods such as hacksaws and car tire jacks to save her. However, during the rescue, an earthquake continued to come, the house was in danger of completely collapsing. But fortunately, the girl was successfully rescued.
A week after the horrific incident, the little girl was lying in the village receiving treatment, still in pain with her injured leg. The doctor said that the situation is very serious and she may not be able to walk as before. If the situation does not improve in the future, the doctor will have to remove my legs. At the same time, police chief Rahal also confirmed that the girl and her brother were the only ones in the family who escaped. Both their father and mother have passed away. After being discharged from the hospital, the uncle will adopt 2 children.
Not only in this case, but in Syria and Türkiye, many children have lost their parents, buried for hours in the rubble. However, the children still lived and escaped like a miracle. There are babies who are only a few months old but have almost no problems when buried.
Although the rescue work will still face many difficulties, seeing the children's smiles and innocent eyes of the rescued babies will ease the pain, melt the ice, and give strength to the people of Turkey. United States, Syria continues to firmly believe in a brighter future.
Currently, the terrible earthquake has passed, but its consequences are still impossible to calculate. Not only lost property, but tens of thousands of people have passed away forever, this loss cannot be compensated. Currently, countries around the world are still supporting to help Türkiye and Syria with rescue.
