A tropical depression is slowly approaching the eastern Philippines and is likely to strengthen into Typhoon No. 16 in the next few days. The meteorological agency warned that the storm will develop complicatedly due to the impact of cold air and may be headed towards the Central â South Central region.
Typhoon No. 16 has not yet formed but has made the whole Central and South Central region stand still. According to information from the Hydrometeorological Department, a tropical depression is moving in the eastern central part of the Philippines, with coordinates of about 14 degrees north latitude and 135 degrees east longitude. It sounds far-fetched, but meteorological experts insist that this is a "good candidate" to become the No. 16 storm in the South China Sea this year. It is worth mentioning that it is not only strengthening but is also forecast to have a rather unpredictable path.
If it is as forecasted, around December 6 to 7, the tropical depression will pass over the Philippines and enter the South China Sea. Here, it could encounter cold air pouring in from the north, which makes the storm's trajectory and intensity more unpredictable than usual. It is this interference that makes experts use the word "complicated" when talking about the journey of Typhoon No. 16. And no matter how complicated it is, the people of the Central region understand better than anyone else, because every rainy and stormy season is a new challenge.
Initial forecasts show that storm No. 16 is likely to head towards the Central and South Central regions, from Thua Thien â Hue to Khanh Hoa. This is also an area that has just experienced many heavy rains due to the impact of the previous storm No. 15. If the new storm continues to make landfall, the risk of heavy rain, flash floods and landslides will increase, especially in the provinces from South Quang Tri to the North and South Central region â where the terrain is steep and the soil has been soaked with water for many days.
Not only storms, cold air in December is also forecast to be more active, causing the North to appear severe and damaging cold, especially in the mountains. Meanwhile, the South is preparing to enter an early hot period from March 2026. The weather contrast between regions makes the year-end climate picture full of fluctuations, just like "stormy morning, sunny afternoon" as Deputy Minister Phung Duc Tien shared.
As of early December, the damage caused by natural disasters in the year exceeded 97,000 billion VND, with more than 400 dead and missing people. Those chilling numbers are enough to remind us that every hurricane, strong or weak, carries risks that cannot be taken lightly. Therefore, it is essential to closely monitor the development of Typhoon No. 16, especially when it is likely to directly affect densely populated areas and is often affected by rainstorms.
On social media, many people expressed their anxiety when they heard about the new storm. Many comments said that this year the weather is much more "uninhabitable", when storm after storm, rain after rain, and the North is so cold that trees grow slowly. Still, amidst the worries, there is a familiar consensus: I hope the people in the storm area stay safe, I hope the authorities are well prepared, and I hope the storm will weaken before it makes landfall.
In the context of increasingly extreme natural disasters, initiative is still the most important "shield". Meteorological agencies will continue to update the path and intensity of Typhoon No. 16 in the coming days. And people, especially in the Central and South Central regions, need to monitor official information and prepare necessary response measures. Storms can change direction, they can weaken, but vigilance is never superfluous.
How did the ancients forecast the weather? 100 years ago, it was like this!
Keng18:19:05 01/10/2025Hundreds of years ago, when there were no radars, satellites or modern meteorological models, the ancients knew how to forecast the weather in many separate ways. It is a combination of life experience, subtle observation of nature and spiritual beliefs.
