On the morning of January 8, a serious fire occurred at a high-rise house at 84 Le Loi Street, Ha Dong Ward, Hanoi. The owner had to jump from a high floor to escape, and the nearly 100-year-old woman was still trapped inside.
According to witnesses, the fire broke out around 8 a.m. When detecting the smoke of the fire, the surrounding people quickly shouted to each other to bring water and fire extinguishers to help extinguish the fire. However, because the fire spread so quickly and in a wide range, the initial firefighting measures of the people were not effective.
Ms. Mai, who lives at house No. 46 Tran Hung Dao Street (Ha Dong Ward), said that at the time of the fire, she was in the house when she heard a loud shouting from outside. "Around 8 o'clock, I heard many people shouting 'fire, fire', so I ran out to see. At that time, I saw that the house at No. 84 Le Loi Street was burning very loudly, the fire broke out violently from the 1st floor and quickly spread to the upper floors," Ms. Mai recounted.
According to Ms. Mai, as soon as the incident was discovered, the security forces and small traders who were trading at the nearby Ha Dong market immediately ran to assist in fighting the fire. Many people tried to use mini fire extinguishers and buckets to scoop water to extinguish the fire but were unsuccessful. "Everyone only had time to call out loudly for the people who were on the 1st floor to run out. There was a lucky woman who escaped safely," Ms. Mai said.
Meanwhile, a man in the burning house panicked and jumped from the 5th floor to the roof of a neighbor's house to escape. This person was later injured and taken to the emergency room.
Ms. Thuy, a small trader at Ha Dong market, said that the house where the fire occurred was a place to sell electrical appliances, containing many flammable materials inside, so the fire broke out and spread quickly in a short time.
"When I found out about the incident and ran to shout for the people in the house, the fire was burning very badly. Everyone around tried to use what was available such as fire extinguishers and buckets of water to control the fire, but it almost didn't work, it was like salt in the sea," Ms. Thuy shared.
Mr. Bui Huy Quang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ha Dong Ward, said that at the time of the fire, there were a total of 4 people in the house. Due to panic, the homeowner jumped from a high floor and was injured, then was taken to the emergency room in time by the functional forces.
More worryingly, according to Mr. Quang, there is also an old woman about 100 years old trapped inside the house. "Immediately after the fire occurred, the functional forces focused on both extinguishing the fire and deploying rescue work. The top priority at this time is to ensure the safety of the lives of those who are still trapped in the house," Mr. Quang informed.
By about 10 a.m. on the same day, firefighting and rescue and rescue work was still being implemented very urgently. In addition to the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police, the military has also been mobilized to coordinate support. The area around the house is blocked to serve firefighting and ensure the safety of people. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated and clarified by the authorities.
According to the latest update, 2 lucky people escaped, while 2 unfortunate victims trapped in the house were also taken out by rescuers at 12:41 and 12:48. As of 13:00, the functional forces are still spraying water to control the barrier, cool the surrounding area to prevent the fire from spreading, ensuring the safety of people and works around the area.
