The "huge" storm that is rarely seen at the end of the season has officially appeared on the meteorological map, Fung-wong (Phoenix) is not only an ordinary storm, but also a "monster" that is startling experts about the speed of development and the "huge" scale
"Fung-wong" takes off: from a normal low pressure to a "high-level" super typhoon
At dawn on November 6, a "new star" named Fung-wong (Phoenix) was officially registered by meteorologists in the southwest area of Cape Eluanbi, Taiwan. At the same time, the Philippine Astronomical, Geophysical and Meteorological Administration (PAGASA) also confirmed that the offshore tropical depression had "transformed" into a tropical storm. When entering the Philippines ' forecast zone (PAR), Fung-wong will take on the domestic name Uwan.
However, what "shocked" everyone was the speed of its "rise". Experts forecast that Fung-wong will intensify extremely quickly in the next 48 hours, with the possibility of reaching super typhoon level on November 8, just before approaching the Philippines.
The Philippines received the first "blow": rain, floods and tsunami shortage
The first focus of attention is the Philippines. PAGASA has issued a red alert: from 9-11, northern and central Luzon will be hit by extremely heavy rains lasting at least two days.
The eastern coastal areas also face the risk of waves higher than 3 meters, threatening to cause serious flooding. With a current typhoon center pressure of 998 hPa and a Category 7 wind radius of up to 250 km (according to JTWC and Japan), this is no longer a mere typhoon but an "exceptionally strong" weather system. If favorable conditions continue, Fung-wong is assessed to be able to reach the upper threshold of a strong typhoon, equivalent to a high-level super typhoon - a scenario that few people want!
Taiwan "heartbeat": Concerned about the path of "death"
Not only the Philippines, but the island of Taiwan is also "holding its breath" watching the path of this "monster" storm.
Taiwanese meteorological experts say Fung-wong's structure is "very large and strong", potentially causing widespread destruction if it makes landfall. The storm is currently moving in a west-northwest direction at a speed of 28 km/h and is expected to make landfall on the island of Luzon around November 10. The most "thrilling" thing is that the storm will then change direction to the north, approaching Taiwan.
Forecast models are gradually agreeing on a "string-tightening" scenario: after passing Luzon, the typhoon will move along the Taiwan Strait, potentially directly affecting the island between November 11 and 13. Some of the more "reckless" scenarios even suggest that the typhoon could make direct landfall in Taiwan!
Why is Fung-wong so "terrible"? Shocking explanation!
According to two well-known Taiwanese meteorological experts, Lam Duc An and Ngo Duc Vinh, the appearance of a large-scale typhoon like Fung-wong in November is a rare phenomenon. If this typhoon sweeps through Taiwan, the damage could be "extremely severe" due to a combination of intense winds and heavy rainfall.
The reason Fung-wong is "both strong and large" is that it is passing through waters with high temperatures and abundant ocean energy. This is an ideal "source of nutrition" to help storms increase the intensity of dizziness.
In particular, if the typhoon moves close to the east coast of Taiwan, its circulation can interact with the northeast monsoon, creating a resonant effect that causes intense heavy rainfall, especially in northern and eastern Taiwan.
Both the Philippines and Taiwan have now been placed under emergency watch. All eyes are on the "monster" Fung-wong, the storm is forecast to be strongest at the end of this fall.
Storm Goni - storm No. 10 is likely to enter the East Sea on November 1
team youtuber15:01:34 30/10/2020Currently, the forecast shows that the storm is likely to make landfall south of Hai Van Pass, i.e. mainland provinces from Da Nang Nang to Quang Ngai. On November 3-5, the circulation of the storm caused a rainstorm for the area with an amount of 150-200 mm. According to Ms. Le Thi Xuan...
