Bank robbery in Lam Dong: Suspect falls into net as he tries to flee to Cambodia

After 10 hours of committing the crime, the suspect used dangerous tools to rob a bank in Duc Trong district, Lam Dong province, was arrested by the authorities, while driving a motorbike to escape to Binh Thuan.

On the morning of February 8, the police of Lam Dong province arrested the suspect who committed the robbery at Vietinbank Duc Trong transaction office, located in Lien Nghia town, Duc Trong district, belonging to Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade - Lam Dong Branch.

The suspect, identified as Nguyen Thanh Trung (born in 1992, from Ha Tinh; permanent resident of Di Linh district, Lam Dong), was arrested at about 1 am on the same day, while riding a motorbike to escape to Binh Thuan province with the intention of trying to escape to Cambodia, with about VND 3 billion in cash in his backpack.

Nguyen Thanh Trung currently rents a room in Duc Trong district. Recently, the suspect in real estate business has lost m.oney, owed many people a large amount of m.oney, so he had the idea of robbery. To carry out the above robbery, the subject prepared and planned very carefully.

As People's Newspaper reported, in the early afternoon of February 7, the subject covered his mask, put on a cap, and wore a backpack into Vietinbank Duc Trong transaction office. After using dangerous objects to intimidate bank employees, he stole some cash and left the bank.

According to some witnesses, as soon as the robber got the m.oney, ran out to get on a motorbike to escape, the bank's security guards pursued and chased when he was s.hot by the robber.

The bullet grazed the bottom of the bank guard's neck area, causing skin abrasions and lacerations to his shirt. Officers also seized a lead bullet at the scene, allegedly fired by the robber.

Immediately after the incident, the police leader of Lam Dong province went directly to the scene to direct the search for the subject. Hundreds of officers and soldiers from many forces have been mobilized to coordinate in blocking and arresting suspects at arterial roads in and out of Lam Dong province.

Experienced criminal scouts from the police of Lam Dong province and the police of Duc Trong district were urgently selected by the police leaders of Lam Dong province to participate in the investigation and arrest of the robber.

At 1 a.m. on Feb. 8, after about 10 hours of committing the crime, the bank robbery suspect was surrounded, restrained and arrested by police forces while on the run with exhibits.

Earlier, around 16:30' on February 1, 2024, at the transaction office of Vietnam Bank for Industry and Trade - Vietinbank Cua Lo Branch (Vinh City, Nghe An) there was a similar robbery.

The subject covered his face, wearing a gray jacket, helmet, riding a motorcycle (BKS unknown) cheekily broke into the transaction room using 2 dangerous tools to threaten and intimidate employees to rob m.oney. After robbing VND 46 million, he quickly fled towards Vinh City.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Director of Public Security of Nghe An province directed to establish a specialized case and mobilize maximum forces to investigate. Elite forces from the Criminal Police Department, Cua Lo Police Department, Nghi Loc District Police, Vinh City Police and related professional units were assigned to participate in the specialized project, coordinate with professional departments of the Ministry of Public Security to comprehensively implement professional measures with determination to solve the case as soon as possible.

The specialized investigation process encountered many difficulties, because the subject was very sophisticated and cunning, in the process of fleeing, often changed vehicles, costumes, masked and moved trickily on the roads to deal with the authorities.

But with the highest spirit and determination, not managing day and night, after less than 48 hours, until 16:30' on February 3, 2024, at Km 454 300, National Highway 1A in Nghi Lien commune, Vinh city, Nghe An province, the Specialized Committee has successfully arrested the subject Dinh Khuong Linh, who has 2 previous convictions.
