Criminal fugitive for 23 years caught up in the net because of Typhoon Yagi, 1 person was suddenly wronged

Under the comment section, many netizens think that this is the wanted subject Nguyen Quoc Tuan as reported by the press. However, someone later came in to vindicate when he said that he was not that fugitive criminal, just quite similar in appearance.

Recently, the special working group of the Criminal Police Division of Quang Ninh Provincial Police presided over and coordinated with the Police Department to investigate crimes related to prohibited substances to verify and successfully arrest the special wanted subject Nguyen Quoc Tuan (born 1960, residing in Pham Dinh Ho ward, Hai Ba Trung district, Hanoi) after 23 years of hiding.

Tuan was wanted under the Wanted Decision No. 468 dated August 15, 2001 of the Quang Ninh Provincial Police Investigation Agency for the crime of "Illegal trading of narcotics".

According to the investigation documents, on January 15, 2001, the Drug Crime Investigation Police Division of Quang Ninh Provincial Police arrested Pham Dang Khoa (born 1965), Nguyen Trong Thuy (born 1964) for illegally buying and selling prohibited substances at Tran Phu Street, Mong Cai Town (now Mong Cai City), Quang Ninh province, seized 1 dumpling.

During the investigation and expansion of the case, it was determined that Nguyen Quoc Tuan was directly involved in the sale and purchase of the above prohibited substances, the Investigating Police Agency of Quang Ninh Province issued a decision to prosecute the accused and a special arrest warrant for him.

After 23 years of persistently tracking the subject in combination with the advocacy for surrender but not succeeding, in January 2024, the Criminal Police Division learned that Nguyen Quoc Tuan had changed his background information and registered for temporary residence in Son La province, so he sent a working group to coordinate with units of the Son La Provincial Police to verify arrested the subject but still "silent".

Through some social relations of Tuan, the Criminal Police Division has information that Tuan only registered for temporary residence in Son La to distract the Police while Tuan is currently hiding in Ha Tinh province.

Around the beginning of August 2024, by means of professional verification measures, the Criminal Police Division reconnaissance determined that Nguyen Quoc Tuan was hiding in My Tho city, Tien Giang province. Immediately afterwards, the leaders of the Quang Ninh Provincial Police directed the Criminal Police Division and the Police Division for Investigation of Crimes on Prohibited Substances to establish a special prosecution case to coordinate and concentrate forces and means and establish a special working group to synchronously implement professional measures to verify and arrest the subject.

During the verification process, the Police Agency learned that Tuan continued to change his full name to register for temporary residence and apply for a job on an offshore fishing vessel. He often follows fishing boats to the sea, about 2 or 3 months before going ashore for a few days and then going out to sea again.

On September 4, 2024, after learning about Super Typhoon Yagi entering the East Sea, it was likely that Tuan would return to the mainland to shelter from the storm, the leaders of the Quang Ninh Provincial Police directed the Special Task Force to continue sending a special task force to move to My Tho city. On September 5, 2024, under the close direction of the Board of Directors of the Provincial Police and the spirit of resolute fight against crime of the Special Task Force, the Special Working Group chaired by the Criminal Police Division in coordination with the Police Department for Criminal Investigation of Prohibited Substances successfully arrested Nguyen Quoc Tuan in Ward 9, My Tho city when the subject had just returned to the mainland.
