Department of Culture and Sports speaks out about Jack's song with offensive lyrics: Performed without permission

The leaders of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports confirmed that they had granted permission for the Moonlit Childhood program to take place on the evening of October 16. However, the song performed by Jack in the show - which is causing controversy - was not on the list of songs submitted by the organizer for permission and censorship.

A representative of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports said they are reviewing the entire incident and will invite the organizing committee to work to clarify the licensing process as well as the actual performance content of the program.

Previously, at an event in Hanoi, Jack performed a new composition on stage.

The lyrics have lines like: "Those who don't like me in real life, how dare they. I sing for fun, more than they go to work in their lifetime", "It's a daily thing, there's more, there's more, no problem. Fans often call me out because I'm Lao...".

In the middle of the performance, the singer said: "I feel happy, I write whatever I like. If the song is not good, I hope everyone will ignore it. If everyone doesn't ignore it, there's nothing I can do about it."

As soon as the clip recording the performance went viral on social media, many viewers expressed mixed reactions. Notably, the phrase "respect everything" in the rap part made the public worried about its sensitive, unstandardized and inappropriate implications for public performance.

Designer Thach Linh - representative of the organizing committee - said: "We have the full vocals and lyrics. In the original, the phrase Jack sang was "lao gi cung toi", which does not have the offensive meaning as the audience heard in the viral clip. In fact, the content means "every sin is my fault", it is just a play on words and is not obscene at all."

According to the representative of the program organizer, the song performed by Jack is a new composition, completed by the male singer only about 5-6 days before the show.

Due to the time crunch, the male singer only had time to send it to the organizers. When sending the overall script for the program, the organizers did not add this song and its lyrics to the relevant management agency.

The organizers also said that the entire program had been properly licensed by the authorities, however Jack's performance was an extra and had not yet gone through the content approval process.

Before performing, Jack introduced this as an untitled song, written spontaneously to "express his feelings", not for commercial purposes, and told the audience: "If the song is not good, I hope everyone will ignore it."

The organizers added that this performance is for fans and is not strictly controlled like other performances.

Jack's side also explained similarly, but netizens did not agree with this explanation.

Some people believe that the explanation of impromptu singing, without prior preparation but with a dance troupe and carefully choreographed movements is misleading and dishonest. The incident is still causing a stir in public opinion.

Before Jack, many music products were criticized by the public for their vulgar names. Regarding this trend, musician Duong Cam once said: "If possible, I would ban those songs."
