After Decree 168/2024 takes effect, a series of cases of crossing red lights still occur. This comes from the habit of crossing yellow lights, launching 2-3 seconds before the red light, causing many people to 'fly' half a month's salary in an instant.
Today (2/1), the 2nd day of Decree 168/2024 takes effect. On the routes, road users have strictly obeyed the signal light orders but there are still cases of deliberate violations.
According to VietnamNet, at 8:30 am today (morning 2/1/2025), at the intersection of Nguyen Xien - Nguyen Trai (Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi), most road users have strictly complied with traffic safety regulations. However, up to now, the traffic police still recorded and had to make a record of sanctioning 20 cases of motorcycles crossing red lights, going in the opposite direction. Decree 168/2024 stipulates that the fine for these 2 errors is from 4-6 million VND.
Ms. N.T.H. (born in 2004, student, residing in Hoang Mai) was on her way to the exam "in a hurry", so she missed the red light. When informed by the police, the gir.l immediately burst into tears because "I didn't think this behavior would be punished so severely". The gir.l said that if she knew that the fine was so big, she would not have been in a hurry to cross the red light.
As in the case of the female driver D.M.A. (19 years old, residing in Dong Da, Hanoi) driving a motorbike bearing BKS 29E2- 985.XX. When walking on Giai Phong road to Xa Dan, M.A. deliberately ran a red light. Presenting to CSGT, M.A. sobbed and said that he saw the red light turn on but thought he was trying to go fast for a few seconds, so he overtook him. "When I crossed the red light, I just thought it was a little faster, but I didn't think there would be a collision or hinder other people's travel," M.A. said.
Also crossing the red light was handled by the traffic police, Mr. D.V.T. (19 years old, residing in Hung Yen) said that because he was walking fast, when he saw the signal light turn red, he deliberately screwed the throttle to continue instead of stopping. "Partly because I lacked observation, when the light turned red, I was startled and couldn't brake in time, in addition, I also saw many cars deliberately overtaking, so I followed," D.V.T. shared.
Notably, there are many cases where motorbike drivers deliberately cross red lights, but when they are stopped and handled by the traffic police, they do not admit fault. Only when the traffic police showed the image of the violation with "submissiveness".
According to the Urban Economics newspaper, Mr. L. (born 1960, residing in Thanh Tri) is also one of the cases of running a red light. Sharing about his situation, Mr. L. said that because he was in a hurry to apply for a job, he subjectively crossed the red light. "My security guard's salary is 6 million VND/month, but now when I cross a red light, I am fined 5 million VND, my salary is gone. I don't dare to reoffend," Mr. L. said.
Mr. L.V.K, residing in Chuong My district, Hanoi shared: "Motorcyclists like me do not dare to cross a red light because the new fine is as high as 5 million VND. In the past, I could go carelessly, but now I don't dare because for me, this amount is equal to half a month's salary."
The leader of the Traffic Police Department said on Tuoi Tre that arbitrariness when participating in traffic, not following the law on traffic order and safety is the basic cause of collisions and unnecessary tragic deaths. Many people admit that they are afraid to stop the car, see other cars also passing the red light, want to go home early... over time it has become a habit of overtaking, especially when there is no police force.
"The aggravation of fines for acts and groups of violations of traffic rules is one of the measures to prevent violations and minimize the risk of collisions. The highest goal is that every citizen on the street returns home safely," said the leader of the Traffic Police Department.
According to statistics of the Hanoi Police Department, in November 2024, the whole city has handled 36,288 cases of violation of traffic order and safety, fined VND 59.47 billion, temporarily seized 10,648 vehicles and 20,939 sets of papers, and deprived driving licenses in 4,843 cases.
