Ms. Shin was indicted for opening and operating seven casinos for profit from late January 2022 to late August 2023. Prosecutors said Ms. Shin connected with members of an illegal gambling website via Telegram. She then obtained access codes and became the manager and operator of the gambling centers. She earned profits by collecting commissions based on the total amount of bets and losses of players. In addition, Han So Hee's mother also hired "heads" to manage adult gambling centers under a profit-sharing agreement.

Of the seven locations, five were in Wonju, one in Ulsan and one in Gyeongju in South Gyeongsang Province. Shin also hired “heads” to manage the gaming centers or cooperated with operators to organize online games. Despite being fined 5 million won (about $3,800) in 2023 for similar conduct, Shin continued to operate illegal gambling operations. The court said that although the specific amount of profits was not disclosed, the structure of the operation suggested that the proceeds could have been huge.

Because she had been given a warning, she still re-offended. Therefore, the prosecutor requested a sentence of 1 year and 6 months in prison for Ms. Shin. Currently, the prosecutor objected and filed an appeal against the court's sentence for Han So Hee's mother because it was too light and not a deterrent. Actress Han So Hee explained at the time: "My parents divorced when I was five years old and I was raised by my grandmother. As her daughter, I paid her back to the best of my ability before debuting."

After news of her mother's arrest broke, Han So Hee's management company, 9Ato Entertainment, released a statement stating that the issue involving the actress's mother was completely personal and had nothing to do with her. They said that Han So Hee only learned about the incident through news reports and felt very sad.

The company emphasized: "We apologize for causing discomfort by releasing information unrelated to her work." Before the news, the online community raised speculations about Han So Hee's relationship with her scandalous mother.
