On February 10, talking to the media, Mr. Ksor Tuang, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ia O commune (Ia Grai district, Gia Lai province) confirmed: "The commune has received information from the family of Mr. Ro Mah G. (born in 2003, residing in Bi village) about him being tricked into selling to Cambodia and calling relatives to send ransom. After receiving the information, the commune reported to the authorities to find a rescue plan."
According to Mr. Tuan, in recent years, many victims have been deceived by bad guys, believing in the temptation of light work with high income abroad. In Ia O commune, there have been 7 cases of victims' families coming to report that their children have been deceived and sold abroad.
"Mr. Ro Mah G. is a citizen of Ia O commune. Upon receiving information about Mr. G. going on a business trip with a friend and then disappearing, the Party Committee and the Commune People's Committee held a meeting and conducted verification. Leaders of the Commune People's Committee have also sent officials to grasp the situation and guide the family to make a report to the authorities," Mr. Tuan shared.
Previously, according to information from Mr. G.'s relatives, in recent calls via social networking applications, he said that he was deceived into selling to Cambodia and asked his family to send money for ransom. Sitting in an old house, deteriorating over time, Mrs. Ro Mah Psem (Mr. G.'s mother) was destitute, not knowing how to have enough money to redeem her child.
Ms. Psem said that Mr. G. is the third child in the family. Around August 2024, Mr. G. informed his mother that he would go to Hanoi to find a job, and at the same time reassured his family that there was no need to worry because there was a friend he knew before who would help.
Ms. Ro Mah Psem choked up and shared: "Some time later, I texted and called via the Messenger application to announce that I was in Cambodia and asked my family to send ransom money. Hearing the news from my child, I was in a lot of pain, but I didn't know how, I was just worried that he would be physically impacted or harmed. The house only has a small garden, I am trying to sell it but no one has bought it to have money to take care of my child."
Mr. Ro Mah Hyiu (G.'s brother) said that after working for about 2 months, Mr. G. called to say that he was working in Hanoi and asked him to send 2 million VND to take a car back to Gia Lai.
After that, Mr. Hyiu asked a friend in Dong Nai province to transfer the money in the account that Mr. G. provided. A few days later, Mr. G. continued to call back and said that he was in Ho Chi Minh City, there was a new man who invited him to work there with a salary of 500 thousand VND/day.
Mr. Mah recalled: "My brother asked me to transfer 500 thousand VND to take the car home. However, after that, when I called back, I couldn't get in touch. Around November 2024, G. called me and said that he was in Cambodia, asking to transfer 120 million VND to be released to Vietnam.
After that, I received a few more calls claiming to be G. and asking for a ransom. However, the voice on the phone was not G.'s and the caller spoke in Kinh and not Jrai. After that, I received a message from Messenger with the coordinates where G. was in Cambodia."
"Recently, through social networks, G. borrowed a friend's phone to make a video call to me. She said that she was in Cambodia and asked her family to send 150 million VND to ransom herself. Currently, the family has reported the incident to the Commune Police, Provincial Police, Ia O Border Guard Station and local authorities," Mr. Mah added.
Previously, on February 7, the Tay Ninh Border Guard Command said that it had just coordinated with the Tay Ninh Provincial Police to receive 177 Vietnamese returned by Cambodia, related to labor and illegal residence in the country. Specifically, on February 6, at Moc Bai International Border Gate, Moc Bai International Border Gate Border Guard Station (Tay Ninh Border Guard) coordinated with the Tay Ninh Provincial Police to receive 177 citizens (19 women and 158 men) handed over by Cambodia. In which, there are 2 cases that are being searched by the police.
