Brake jam causes truck fire on highway, driver narrowly escapes death?

In the early morning of January 21, 2025, a truck fire broke out on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong highway, attracting great public attention. The truck carrying vegetables and fruits, while traveling through Tien Giang province, suddenly caught fire.

According to information from Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 7 (Department 6, Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security), the incident occurred at around 0:38 a.m. on January 21. The truck with license plate 67H-003.69, driven by driver Hoang Van Son (born in 1986, from Lam Dong), was traveling on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong highway in the direction from Ho Chi Minh City to Tien Giang.

When arriving at km 42,950, in Tan Ly Dong commune, Chau Thanh district, Tien Giang province, the driver discovered smoke coming from under the car. He immediately stopped the car in the emergency lane and tried to use the fire extinguisher equipped on the car to put out the fire. However, the fire quickly spread and exceeded the driver's control.

At this time, the working group of Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 7, while passing through the area, discovered the fire and immediately reported to the professional fire fighting force. The timely coordination of the Traffic Police force and the fire fighting team helped extinguish the fire after only about 20 minutes.

By noon of the same day, a representative of the Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 7 said that the initial cause of the truck fire was determined to be a jammed brake pad on the left rear tire of the vehicle. This incident caused the brake system to overheat, causing a fire or explosion. This has raised questions about the need for regular inspection and maintenance of vehicles to avoid potentially dangerous situations.

The fire caused significant damage. The rear of the truck was severely damaged, while a large amount of vegetables and fruits on the truck were burned or badly damaged, scattered on the road. Traffic police and drivers actively assisted in moving the goods and cleaning up the scene. Although the fire was brought under control, the property damage was still very large.

In addition, the fire also caused serious traffic congestion on the Ho Chi Minh City - Trung Luong Expressway. Dozens of vehicles had to stop for a long time, creating a chaotic scene, with many vehicles stuck on the expressway for more than an hour. Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Hai Duong, representative of Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 7, said: "We always try to support handling incidents quickly and effectively.
