Around 2:00 pm on the same day, when the canoe brought everyone from Cu Lao Cham Island to Cua Dai port, it was suddenly sunk by the waves. Because it happened so quickly, he could barely remember anything.

On the afternoon of February 27, the functional forces found his wife's body and brought it to the funeral home of Hoi An City, but the 2-year-old child is still missing. Worse yet, his brother's family also suffered the loss of a loved one, waiting in vain for news of their son at the border station.

"My God! My wife, my children! Now I know what to do...", Mr. Tr. choked.

According to research, in this tourist canoe sinking, only 8 people died and went missing in the large family group in Hanoi.

As a victim in a group of tourists from Hanoi who were lucky to escape death in the tragedy, Nguyen Xuan H. (14 years old, residing in Dong Anh district, Hanoi) said that her family moved from Hanoi to Da Nang. In the morning of February 26, my family went to Hoi An to go to Cu Lao Cham island to play and return to the mainland in the afternoon of the same day.

"However, when the canoe was about to come ashore, suddenly it was sunk by a big wave, everyone panicked and called for help. At that time, I asked for a life jacket to float on the sea. About 30 minutes later, I was lucky to be rescued. The lifeboat was discovered and rescued ashore," recalled H. in shock.

Orphaned mother, 3 children at home cry a lot

Painfully waiting to receive his wife's body at Hoi An General Hospital to bring home for burial, Mr. Pham Ngoc H. (50 years old, residing in Ward 15, Go Vap District, Ho Chi Minh City) said, on February 24, He, his wife and 6 friends went to Hoi An to travel. On the morning of February 26, the group went to Cu Lao Cham island to play.

"When I was running back to the shore, the canoe was overturned by the waves. Some children on the nose of the canoe were thrown into the water, the rest were trapped in the canoe. And my wife and the people stuck in the canoe all died, only those who got out survived," said Mr. H. sadly.

Mr. H. short and long tears shared: "At that time I thought I was also dead, but after struggling for a while, I managed to get out. But I didn't know where my wife was sitting, so I couldn't pull it out. Now she's dead. Then, the trip was happy and sad, my 3 children at home cried a lot because they are orphaned now ...".

Late on February 26, Mr. Tran Van Tan - Vice Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee also visited, encouraged and offered condolences to the relatives of the victims in the canoe sinking. Mr. Tan said that the Quang Nam provincial government has now supported 10 million VND for each dead person and 4 million VND for each injured person.
