In August 2020, the couple divorced and Thai was assigned the right to care and raise children by the court. In September 2020, Thai lived as husband and wife with Trang at an apartment in Saigon Pearl apartment, Binh Thanh district. At this time, baby A. also lived with her father and "step-aunt" Quynh Trang.

In October 2021, baby A. studied online at home, Trang did not have a job, so Thai tutored her children. Around this time, Trang repeatedly used hands, feet, whips, wooden sticks, metal trees, beat and tortured the 8-year-old child. Sometimes Trang refused to let her child wear clothes when she was beaten, forced her to kneel and raise her hands high; forcing the child into the dog house, kneeling, learning while kneeling, being beaten; cut the hair with scissors, cover the baby's head with a towel, repeatedly hit the table...

Trang performed many types of beatings, torture, cursing and repeated for a long time, leaving physical and emotional pain for the 8-year-old child. Trang's conduct constitutes the crime of Torture.

While Thai is the father, he is obliged to take care of, raise and protect his daughter. However, when she witnessed her child being beaten and tortured by Trang, Thai not only did not intervene, but also participated in scolding and beating her child. Thai's behavior is an accomplice with Trang on the crime of torturing others.

On December 22 alone, Trang used a dangerous weapon (a large round tree), used her hands and feet, repeatedly brutally beaten the baby for 4 hours in a row, killing the victim. Trang knows that repeatedly attacking the baby's "dangerous" place can cause death, but Trang intentionally does it in a cruel and merciless way. Trang's conduct constitutes murder.

Regarding the motive of the crime, Trang stated that she beat and tortured the child because the girl did not study well. However, this is a false statement because of the verification results from the homeroom teacher, the nanny at the school where A. is studying, the girl is a diligent student, absorbing lessons well.

The camera data shows that Trang repeatedly beat the girl outside of school time, she beat the child for unreasonable reasons, using the excuse to beat and torture.

In addition, the investigation results show that Thai does not want to have children with Trang, his family does not accept Trang. This reason makes Trang very jealous of Ms. Nguyen Thi H. (Thai's wife is divorced).

Quynh Trang's step-aunt used to come to the house of the 8-year-old baby's mother, forbidding Ms. H. to see her child. The step-aunt herself also went to Thai's Facebook account to delete all pictures of Ms. H.

Earlier on the evening of December 27, in the area under the building where baby VA lived, relatives lit candles to commemorate the ill-fated baby.

According to Ho Chi Minh City Law Newspaper, in its conclusion, the investigating agency determined that the acts of the two defendants were "dangerous to society, done with intentional error, by a competent person to blame. criminal responsibility, has infringed upon human life, health, dignity and honor; infringed upon judicial activities in the fight against crime, criminal acts of a barbaric nature, cruel, having a great impact on public opinion, adversely affecting social order and safety, request the court to strictly handle before the law to ensure deterrence and general prevention.
