On May 18, the patient was transferred to the Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases 2 in a state of severe respiratory failure. The patient was intubated on a ventilator and was assigned to run ECMO (the "extracorporeal membrane oxygenation" system) for emergency care.

After 13 days of treatment with antibiotics, Cytokine adsorption dialysis, ECMO, mechanical ventilation, on May 30, the patient had an improvement in the respiratory apparatus, was successfully weaned and withdrawn from ECMO. Currently, the patient is still mechanically ventilated through endotracheal tube and is being weaned from the ventilator.
