According to information from Thanh Hoa Provincial Police, initial investigation and testing showed that many types of fake oriental medicine seized in the case contained large amounts of painkillers.
This makes the patient feel pai.n relief quickly after using it. As for the group of fake Western medicines, although no toxic properties have been detected, the test samples do not contain antibiotic active ingredients according to the instructions printed on the product packaging.
The police said that the suspects in the ring bought raw materials such as starch, adhesives, pharmaceutical additives, bamboo charcoal, colorants, etc. to mix and then package them into medicines to sell on the market. Notably, none of the 14 suspects arrested had any expertise or qualifications related to the field of drug production.
Previously, on the afternoon of April 16, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police announced the results of the fight against and the destruction of a large-scale counterfeit drug production and trafficking ring.
In addition to arresting 14 subjects, the authorities also seized a total of 21 types of counterfeit drug.s, including modern medicine and drug.s for treating bone and joint diseases. These drug.s were manufactured and packaged very sophisticatedly before being put on the market. Specifically, the seized exhibits included: 44 boxes of Tetracycline, 40 boxes of Clorocid, 49 boxes of Pharcoter, 52 boxes of Neo-Codion, 1,232 boxes of Joint Pai.n and Paralysis Pills, 4,122 boxes of Tui Hua Shen Jing Tong (Singaporean Degeneration Medicine), 2,285 boxes of Cordyceps Ginseng Velvet, Spleen and Appetite Relief Pills, 1,923 boxes of Professor's Pill (commonly known as Green Joints), 5,172 boxes of Mujarhabat Kapsul (commonly known as Green Joints).

The total volume of counterfeit drug.s and raw materials seized was nearly 10 tons. Through investigation, the subjects confessed that they had started operating since 2021 and sold a large amount of counterfeit drug.s to the market, earning an estimated illegal profit of nearly 200 billion VND.
The subjects rented factories deep in alleys and dead-end streets - places where few people go, turning these places into "underground factories" to produce fake drug.s. The workers were relatives or acquaintances from other provinces, living in closed quarters, completely isolated from the surrounding residential areas.
Posing as pharmaceutical staff, these subjects approach the market by building trust: initially mixing real and fake drug.s, after having a stable number of customers, they completely launch fake drug.s produced by themselves. The main consumers are freelance pharmacists operating in the drug market.
This ring was led by Nguyen Tien Dat (born in 1991, residing in Thanh Xuan district, Hanoi). Dat's group colluded with Trinh Doan Giao's group (born in 1985, residing in Ho Chi Minh City) to manufacture and trade fake medicine. At the police station, Nguyen Tien Dat admitted his crime and expressed remorse. "I am very remorseful for my illegal behavior in buying and selling fake medicine," Dat said.
