World's first transgender father and daughter: Supported by their partners

In a society that is still full of discrimination against LGBT people, daring to openly declare one's sexual orientation and live a free and comfortable life does not seem easy for many people.

Homosexuals are like that, transgender people also have to endure a lot of contempt from people around them.

It is not easy to accept things that are different, but it is the differences that make life so wonderful.

The story of little girl Corey and her second father Eric from Detroit, Michigan, USA is proof of the above.

Erica Maison became famous when she publicly released a video of her decision to inject her teenage son with female hormones in September 2015. The video was then shared millions of times on social media. Eighteen months later, the mother of six living in Detroit, Michigan, publicly transitioned to a man and changed her name to Eric, according to Fox5. Eric and Corey are considered the world's first transgender father and son.

Eric and Corey first learned they were transgender when they watched a TV interview with YouTube star Jazz Jennings. Corey then boldly declared to his mother, "Mom, I'm just like her. I'm a girl."

Eric, who realized his gender identity at the time, decided to keep it a secret and support his son’s gender transition. The 2015 video shows Eric surprising his son by opening a black plastic bag. There was no jewelry or concert tickets inside.

“Do you know what that is?” Eric, then still Erica, asked.

Corey smiled and hugged her mother, tears of joy in her eyes. Corey was surprised when her mother gave her her first dose of hormones. It was a dream Corey had been waiting for for three years. Corey was born biologically male but identified as female. As a result, she always felt like she was born into the wrong body of a boy.

"For my second birthday, I got a toy truck and my sister got a Barbie doll. I didn't know what to do with it," Corey recalls.

When Corey was little, he often wore his mother’s dresses and high heels. Boys were often naughty like that, so people thought it was normal. However, this hobby did not change or show any signs of stopping as Corey grew older.

When Corey was 10 years old, her mother decided to help her realize her dream of becoming a transgender woman, after researching and consulting with doctors at a gender clinic in Chicago. Like many other transgender youth, Corey was teased and criticized by her friends. With the help of those around her, she gradually overcame her inferiority complex. Corey planned to get breast implants on her 18th birthday.

"I told my mom, 'I thought I was in a box for so long and now I'm free,'" Corey said.

After helping Corey fulfill her dream of being a girl, Eric also came to terms with himself. Eric had struggled for many years living as a woman.

"When I was young, I wished I had cancer so I could have a mastectomy," Eric told Tara Brown, host of Australia's 60 Minutes.

Corey's transition gave Eric the strength to come out to his husband Les and their five children. Eric told Mirror Online that his husband supported his coming out. Their relationship is even closer and better than before. Despite the change of gender, Eric's family still lives together. Les still finds Eric beautiful whether he is a man or a woman.

"It was a terrible secret that she kept from her family," said Eric.

"My husband is truly a wonderful man. Even though I transitioned, nothing changed. He always supported me throughout the process. Moreover, our love has grown stronger and deeper even after many years of marriage."

The transgender father confided that he "hated being pregnant". Since his mastectomy, Eric felt as if the years of suffering had been relieved. Now, life for Eric is truly beautiful.
