In recent years, K-pop has risen to become one of the most influential music genres in the world. Not only stopping at Asia, the Hallyu wave has spread strongly to the West, especially the US market.
One of Kpop's most important achievements is the ability to break through and maintain a strong foothold in the United States, where few Asian artists have done so before. Thanks to a methodical promotion strategy, careful investment in music, choreography, image, along with support from a strong fan community, K-pop groups have created impressive numbers in pure album sales (i.e. physical album sales, excluding streaming).
According to data just released by Chart Data, BTS is currently the K-pop group with the highest album sales in US history. With more than 5.8 million copies sold, this global group not only affirmed its position in the K-pop industry but also proved its strong attraction in the world's largest music market.
Following BTS, many other K-pop groups are also gradually making their mark with impressive achievements, specifically:
- Stray Kids ranked second with more than 3.07 million copies sold, showing the strong growth of the boy band from JYP Entertainment.
- TXT (Tomorrow X Together) holds the third position with 2.1 million copies, proving that the young generation of artists has the potential to reach far in the international arena.
- TWICE, one of the top K-pop girl groups, ranked fourth with 1.53 million copies, affirming their strong appeal in the US market.
- ENHYPEN followed closely with 1.52 million copies, showing that this rookie group is off to a very favorable start.
- ATEEZ and SEVENTEEN ranked sixth and seventh, respectively, with sales of 1.4 million and 1.49 million copies, demonstrating their popularity among the international fan community.
- NCT 127 occupies the eighth position with 1.25 million copies sold.
- BLACKPINK, the global popular K-pop girl group, holds the ninth position with 710,000 copies, continuing to assert their dominance in the K-pop girl music industry.
- SuperM, a project group consisting of members from many popular K-pop groups, ranked tenth with 630,000 copies.
The fact that K-pop artists have achieved these achievements in the United States is not only an important milestone for the Korean music scene, but also reflects a shift in global music tastes. In the past, the US market was mainly dominated by Western artists, but now, Kpop has created a strong push, opening the door for artists from Asia.
The success of K-pop not only comes from attractive music but also thanks to smart promotion strategies, close connections between artists and fans through social networks, along with carefully invested product quality. As a result, Kpop is not only a temporary trend but is increasingly asserting its long-term position in the global music industry.
With the current development momentum, Kpop promises to continue to explode even stronger, create new records and expand its influence on many other markets in the future.
YG Entertainment is also pinning its hopes on BLACKPINK to top the list in 2025. While the members pursue solo projects, form new companies, or sign contracts elsewhere, YG retains the rights to the group's activities. According to the announced information, BLACKPINK is preparing to return with full group members and start a world tour.
Meanwhile, SM Entertainment is celebrating its 30th anniversary with "SMTOWN Live 2025" concerts. These performances, featuring current bands and legendary artists such as H.O.T., S.E.S, and Fly to the Sky, sold out tickets for both days at the Gocheok Sky Dome.
