On March 30, rescuers rescued a bab.y girl who had been trapped for more than 50 hours in a collapsed hotel in Mandalay, the epicenter of the earthquake in Myanmar.
Rescuers told reporters that the gir.l said she survived thanks to four bottles of water in her room. Reporters at the scene said rescuers had opened a rescue hole in the collapsed outer wall of the hotel and were searching inside the building. There are currently five people trapped in the hotel, including two Chinese nationals. Of the two rescued, only one gir.l survived.
According to rescuers, the gir.l's will to survive and her strong will were very touching. Four simple bottles of water became her only source of support between life and deat.h. When she was found, the gir.l was very weak but not panicked. In the crucial moment, she remained calm, trying to maintain her life, and this may have been the key to her survival.
The rescue and relief situation in Myanmar is still very tense as it is a race against time. The United Nations said it is quickly providing relief to about 23,000 survivors of the earthquake in central Myanmar.
“Our teams in Mandalay are working together to scale up the humanitarian response despite their own trauma,†said Noriko Takagi, the UN refugee agency’s representative in Myanmar. “Time is of the essence as Myanmar needs global solidarity and support during this massive devastation.â€
This morning, March 31, a working delegation from the Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security arrived at the first gathering point in Myanmar and moved to the scene after the earthquake disaster to carry out international search and rescue missions.
According to the report, in the capital Nay Pyi Taw (Myanmar), after a meeting with the coordinating force, local authorities sent a working group to the first scene, about 20 minutes away from the military base.
The scene was a 3-storey building that completely collapsed over an area of 200 square meters. In front of the house, a man over 60 years old was trapped, and behind the building, a woman about 30 years old was trapped.
Earlier, in the early morning of the same day, after 7 hours of travel, the working group arrived in Myanmar, then continued to Sagaing City, about 250 km from the capital of Myanmar. Here, on the morning of March 31, the working group will set up camp and carry out rescue work.
Vietnam has decided to provide emergency relief supplies at the request of Myanmar, providing US$300,000 in aid to help the country overcome the consequences of the earthquake. Relief supplies will also be delivered to people in the affected areas.
These are the efforts of the Party, State and people of Vietnam to support Myanmar, an ASEAN member, in overcoming and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters, demonstrating the tradition of "loving others as you love yourself", the spirit of international responsibility and humanitarian gestures of Vietnam; at the same time, affirming the prestige and capacity of the Vietnamese rescue force in participating in international activities.
Immediately after receiving the information, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs directed Vietnamese representative agencies in Thailand and Myanmar to quickly grasp information about the situation of Vietnamese citizens. To date, there has been no information about Vietnamese people being affected by the earthquake.
On March 30, the historic earthquake in Myanmar occurred for nearly two days, but the horrors it brought have only just begun. "The earthquake was not just a normal shaking, but it pushed up and pulled down very strongly. I felt like my house was being torn apart. While I was filming the situation around, the second earthquake happened. It was not very strong. But the third one was too strong.
Many people are trapped under buildings. I heard that the employee at the chili warehouse died. He was a trustworthy person. I also heard that in his hometown, more than 10 ancient buildings collapsed.
In Wundwin, an entire state-owned textile factory collapsed. Workers were inside and were trapped, with no way out. The exact number of casualties there is not yet known.
The road conditions were terrible, we couldn’t drive fast. Going up and down the road was like climbing a mountain. We had to sleep in caves at night. There was no water at my place. The Toe Nayar water plant was completely destroyed and nothing remained. In the whole Wundwin area, there were more than 20 casualties, not counting the number at the textile factory, which is still unknown. We are cremating seven people and there are funerals on almost every street.
We lost the whole market and its goods. The aftershocks lasted until night. There was a deadly silence everywhere and everyone was afraid of another earthquake.
Yesterday, the rescue work started. But they were not rescue volunteers, but just villagers who came to dig to get the bodies out. They kept digging until 7pm. I heard that today the search and rescue work is still going on at the textile factory, but I haven't been there yet" - Ms. Nandar Hlaing - a resident of Wundwin town, Mandalay region.
"The entire mountainous terrain in Sagaing collapsed. Many monasteries were completely destroyed and many people were trapped inside. When the earthquake happened, I was around Sagaing Hill. The first earthquake shook the lake. About a minute or two later, there were more tremors, each one stronger than the last. They shook every five minutes. When the earthquake stopped, I went around to check and saw that the temples and monasteries were all damaged. I saw many dead bodies.
The old Sagaing Bridge collapsed and fell into the river. The new Sagaing Bridge was also impassable. One end of the bridge was sunken, the other end was tilted. Cars, buses and trucks were completely stuck at one end of the bridge. Many vehicles had their wheels off. We had to turn around and ask a monastery in Sagaing to let us park our car and then take the ferry back to Mandalay. That was the only way to get between the two sides.
"I and a few others pooled the maximum amount of mone.y to give to the ferry owner to get to the other side. We tried to support each other as much as possible. Right now I am in Mandalay and the lakes here are all overflowing because of the earthquake" - Aung Ko Ko, a resident of Mandalay.
