In order to concentrate supreme power in their hands, the Ming emperors established a series of secret spy organizations such as the Jin Yi Guard, the East Workshop, the West Workshop and the Inner Workshop. The organization that was born later had greater power and was more "evil" than the organization that was born first.

1. West Workshop

In 1477, Minh Hien Tong (the 9th emperor of the Ming Dynasty) established the West Factory. The West Workshop is located at the west gate of the Forbidden City. The first admiral of the West Workshop was Uong Truc - a close eunuch of Minh Hien Tong.

According to the Ming Dynasty, during the Ming Xiantong period, in Beijing, there was a "love lake" (fox city) raging at night. "Love the lake" works majestically, harming some people, causing chaos in the capital. The East Workshop could not investigate the case, which made Minh Hien Tong very disappointed.

Thinking that the East Workshop was helpless, Minh Hien Tong immediately sent Uong Truc and a group of eunuchs and Cam Yi guards to investigate. Uong Truc is very smart, and soon caught a person pretending to be a "lake lover".

To rewar.d Uong Truc, Minh Hien Tong established the West Workshop. This was also a way for Ming Xian Tong to restrain the power of the Eastern Workshop.

According to Sohu, the West Workshop not only concurrently performs the function of the East Workshop but also has its own court (trial place) and prison. Taking advantage of the emperor's trust, Uong Truc constantly expanded his wings. In just a short time after its establishment, the number of eunuchs working in the West Workshop had reached more than a thousand people.

The West Workshop has great power, overpowering the East Workshop. When Uong Truc held the position of Admiral of the West Workshop and the East Workshop, he lost the right to manage and supervise the Cam Y Guard force.

According to the Ming History, the Western Workshop was specially designated by Minh Hien Tong, who had the full right to decide to investigate, try and convict any suspect, whether it was a martial arts god, a local official or a commoner without going through the emperor. Only the aristocracy, the West Workshop, was not to be touched.

According to Sohu, if they solve a case together, the people of the East Workshop meeting the West Workshop can only "give way".

According to the Ming history, Minh Hien Tong was very fond of Van Quy Phi (real name Van Trinh Nhi) even though Van Quy Phi was ten years older than him.

In order to please the beauty, Minh Hien Tong spent mone.y to build a large pagoda and a taoist for Van Quy to worship Buddha and practice knitting. In the king's palace, there were more than 10,000 concubines and eunuchs. Minh Hien Tong enjoyed playing every day. Everything was left to Uong Truc to handle.

Holding power "under one person per ten thousand people", Uong Truc made the mistake of not knowing where to stop, according to Sohu.

Because he was eager to make meritorious achievements and purge opponents, Uong Truc directed the West Workshop to make many unjust sentences, harming innocent people. His actions made many people turn their ears and eyes.

According to the Ming Chronicle, in May 1477, the official of Thuong Lo University and a group of ministers offered a song to accuse Uong Truc of "overpowering, making people's hearts terrified". Minh Hien Tong temporarily abolished the West Workshop but still trusted Uong Truc.

Uong Truc then used slander and harm schemes, causing Thuong Lo to leave the official and return to his hometown. The west workshop was restored again.

In 1479, the Military Officer of Rank Trung town because of his opposition to Uong Truc was dismissed from his post and sent back to his hometown. After this case, there were dozens of officials who asked Minh Hien Tong to punish Uong Truc. King Minh at this time could not help but be suspicious.

To probe Uong Truc, Minh Hien Tong sent him out of the capital to inspect the border area. Not knowing that he was being watched, Uong Truc tried to accept bribes, persecute officials, and people on the way to inspect.

In 1481, Uong Truc asked to return to the capital, but Ming Xiantong flatly refused and sent him to Nanjing as a eunuch to watch over horses. Uong Truc was then dismissed, and the West Workshop was also abolished.

In 1506, Minh Vu Tong (the 11th emperor of the Ming Dynasty) re-established the West Factory, but soon had to abolish it.

According to Sina, although the East Workshop has a bad reputation, at least it has promoted the role of monitoring officials and fightin.g corruption in the early stages of operation, which has existed for more than 200 years. The West Factory was born later, there was no merit but only caused a lot of injustices, so it only existed for 5 years.

2. Workshop Interior

Ming history records, during the Ming Dynasty (1491 - 1521), there were 8 powerful eunuchs, called the Eight Tigers group (8 tigers). At the head of this group was Liu Can, the eunuch most trusted by Ming Wu Tong.

In 1506, Minh Vu Tong listened to Liu Can's words, re-established the West Workshop, and assigned it to Coc Dai Yong (eunuch of the Eight Tigers group) to manage. The East Workshop is under the management of Ma Yongcheng, also belonging to the Eight Tigers group.

What made Liu Can "annoyed" was that, after holding great power in his hands, Coc Dai Yong and Ma Yongcheng turned to fight again. In order to "take the lead" of both the East and West Workshops, Liu Can asked Minh Vu Tong to establish a new organization, called the Inner Workshop.

In 1508, Minh Vu Tong established the Inner Chamber and appointed Liu Can as Admiral. This organization manages both the East Workshop, the West Workshop and the Cam Y Guard.

After handing over power to Liu Can, Minh Vu Tong "rest assured" to play and enjoy himself.

According to the Ming Chronicle, in 1507, Ming Wu Tong listened to Liu Can's words and built the Newspaper Room. Inside the Bao Room, the Ming king kept many tigers, leopards and beauties, and the fallen party no longer knew night or day.

The Liu Can and the others played all kinds of games for Ming Wu Tong to have fun, until the king was engrossed, they offered early music for approval. Ming Wu Tong said angrily, "What am I raising you for?", and then threw the music to Liu Kun.

According to Sohu, during the Ming Wu Tong period, the folk circulated the saying: "There are two emperors in Beijing. An emperor is lying down, an emperor is standing. One Emperor Zhou, one Emperor Liu."

According to what the Ming History described, the activities of the Inner Workshop were even more terrifying than the Western Workshop under the eunuch Uong Truc.

Those who fell into the hands of the Inner Chamber, for minor crimes, were beaten with a staff and exiled to the border, for serious crimes, they were forced to wear iron chains weighing 150 pounds and pressed to deat.h, and for the crime of "great rebellion", they were beaten to the point of shattering flesh and bones or mausoleum (cutting pieces of meat). Even the people of the East and West Workshop, if they did not obey the Inner Workshop, were arrested.

According to Qulishi, Ming Dynasty documents record the activities of the Inner Workshop, but it can be estimated that, within two years of operation, the organization harmed more than 1,000 people, exiled about 10,000 people. Many people have thought negatively when they are forced to be dealt with by the Internal Affairs Workshop, but there are no statistical documents.

Not only ruthless, Liu Can is also a famous official.

According to the Ming History, Liu Can placed the "underground law" in the official place. Accordingly, the governors of the provinces must pay him 20,000 taels of silver each time they come to the capital (according to the Ming Dynasty rule of every 3 years), and the officials of lower levels must pay 5,000 - 1,000 taels of silver. Those who pay a lot of silver are reminded, those who pay less are demoted, and those who do not have mone.y to pay can borrow interest.

But Liu Can's days of power did not last long.

In 1510, Liu Can was denounced by the general Duong Nhat Thanh and the eunuch Truong Yong, and Minh Vu Tong immediately ordered a search of Liu Can's house.

Ming history records that at Liu Can's house, millions of ounces of gold, silver, and ivory treasures were collected. In addition, dragon cells, jade belts, armor, weapons...

"This talented slave really wants to rebel," Ming Wu Tong said.

Liu Can was punished with a mausoleum. The internal workshop and the West workshop were also abolished.
