Accordingly, on September 19, according to information from the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Provincial Police, the unit cooperated with other authorities to capture a subject impersonating a hotgirl and conducting fraud. amount of nearly 12 billion VND. The person arrested in this case is Dao Thi Mong Thuong, 45 years old, from Dong Thap.
According to police investigation, since August 2019, Dao Thi Mong Thuong has created and used a Facebook account named "Dao Ngoc Minh", often posting pictures of a beautiful young woman and arresting her. first made friends, got acquainted and chatted via text message with a man residing in Vinh city, Nghe An province.
During the conversation, Dao Thi Mong Thuong saw that this man owned a large amount of property, and from there arose the intention to defraud and appropriate the victim's property through love deception.
Mong Thuong introduced herself as Dao Ngoc Minh, born in 1994, and said that her parents are overseas Vietnamese, currently in the shipping business and living in Canada. The subject also created many other social network accounts, posing as Dao Ngoc Minh's relatives, then interacted and chatted with the victim to make the victim believe that this character really existed.
When the victim trusted and had love for the character Ngoc Minh that Thuong created, Dao Thi Mong Thuong gave a lot of false information about Ngoc Minh needing money to take care of work, shopping, and paying. debt, inheritance procedures, and personal documents, thereby defrauding the victim many times to appropriate assets for a total of more than 12 billion VND.
Through investigative activities, the Criminal Police Department of Nghe An Police cooperated with relevant agencies to carry out an arrest and emergency search at Dao Thi Mong Thuong's residence, seizing 2 phones. mobile phone and blocked a bond investment contract worth VND 4 billion.
Currently, Nghe An Police have prosecuted and temporarily detained Dao Thi Mong Thuong on charges of fraud and property appropriation. At the same time, the police are also continuing to conduct an extensive investigation to clarify the entire incident.
Talking to the media, Associate Professor. Dr. Do Canh Thin, criminology expert, Deputy Director of the Institute of Non-Traditional Security (Hanoi National University) has clearly outlined the tactics and tricks of this type of criminals.
He said, the subjects always build detailed, sophisticated scenarios that target the victim's psychology. The ultimate goal of the subjects is to establish connections, create relationships, and appropriate property.
The subjects do not care whether the person is old or young, or where they live, but only actively "fish for bait", if they can trick them, they will trick them, otherwise they will find someone else.
To successfully scam people, even if they are penniless, they still put on the guise of rich people, drive super luxury cars, live super nice houses, have wide acquaintances, and have close relationships. with people in positions of authority, always investing in big businesses.
The subjects' scenarios will be effective if they encounter prey that are lacking in vigilance, lack of social knowledge, lack of understanding of the law, and are self-interested.
"Once they started getting acquainted, the subjects continued to come up with new situations, luring the victims into the "matrix" so that the victims would lose their sanity, follow the lead, and then take advantage of the property. .
Due to its anonymity and lack of face-to-face nature, subjects can take advantage of technology to create all kinds of fake identities, voices, faces, and situations that no one can control. Dr. Do Canh Thin said.
Also according to this expert, there are not many victims like the recent Nghe An man (transferred many times, total amount up to 12 billion VND). But in real life, there are still many scams with similar tricks.
The victims were caught off guard, greedy and did not have enough skills to analyze and evaluate the situation. In particular, they have self-interest and impure motives and purposes such as: Wanting to invest at unusually high interest rates, wanting to receive gifts, wanting to be pampered by beautiful people...
They often secretly send money without sharing it with anyone, without listening to other people's advice. They try every way to hide their actions, and when the consequences are too great, they wake up and it's too late.
Fraudsters have fully exploited this point so that victims can follow their own needs for profit, send them money and then fall into trouble.
