Chinese media reported that the person known as the "Millennium Baby" had just passed away after a short illness. The young girl's passing shocked the public.
According to China News Service, "Millennium Baby" Qianqian (Jie Yue Tian or Tian Tian) was confirmed to have passed away at the age of 25. Her mother posted an obituary on her personal page, announcing her daughter's passing on March 24. Along with that, Qianqian's mother also shared a photo of a newspaper article about the moment her daughter was born.
The news report said that Qianqian came into the world at exactly 0:00 on January 1, 2000, during the countdown to the new year. Therefore, the media called her "Millennium Baby" or "China's first baby girl in the 21st century". Her parents also decided to name her "Qianqian", in which "Qian" means "millennium" in Chinese.
Qianqian was working in the music industry in Tianjin, northern China, when she died. She developed a fever and abdominal pain on March 3. She returned to her hometown in Changzhi, Shanxi Province, China, for medical treatment on March 8. She suddenly fell into a coma on March 9 and was declared dead that night, her mother said.
The cause of Qianqian's death was determined to be sudden cardiac arrest, an unpredictable condition that can take a patient's life without any warning signs. In fact, the sudden cardiac death (SCD) that the "Millennium Baby" suffered is not uncommon.
Yin Yiqi, a first aid instructor for the American Heart Association's Heartsaver Program, describes it as a "hidden bomb" that can kill a person at any time. Factors such as strenuous physical activity, underlying heart disease and the effects of certain medications all contribute to the condition.
And the way to reduce the risk of sudden death also comes from daily activities, diet and lifestyle. "It is important for people to develop healthy living habits, maintain a regular schedule," said Mr. Yin.
The instructor also recommends that people learn essential first aid techniques, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). These techniques can help bystanders act quickly to save the life of an SCD patient, âgiving them the best possible chance of survival,â Yin said.
According to the Global Times, in recent years, the Red Cross Society of China has installed more than 64,000 automated external defibrillators in public places, a significant increase from the 11,000 recorded in May 2021. With the aim of reducing the number of deaths due to sudden cardiac death to the lowest level.
According to medical statistics, half of all sudden deaths are caused by heart problems. Sudden cardiac death occurs more often in men than in women and usually occurs between the ages of 30 and 40. It rarely occurs in children.
One of the most common causes of sudden cardiac death is coronary artery disease, accounting for 80% of all cases. Others are due to genetic diseases and cardiomyopathy. In addition, non-ischemic causes of sudden cardiac death are cardiomyopathy associated with alcoholism, obesity, and fibrosis.
In patients under 35 years of age, sudden cardiac death is typically caused by arrhythmias that cause death and is usually in patients with structurally normal hearts.
In patients aged from birth to 13, the main cause of sudden cardiac death is congenital heart defects. In patients aged 14 to 24, the main causes are hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, myocarditis, congenital coronary artery disease, arrhythmic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, genetic diseases, Marfan syndrome...
