The woman selling vermicelli soup attacke.d the man selling pork and fish cakes, robbed him of gold to pay off his debt.

On the morning of February 20, information from the Criminal Police Department, An Giang Provincial Police said that they had arrested the suspect who caused the crime in the early morning of February 18 in Long Kien commune, Cho Moi district and seized many related evidences.

The suspect arrested 48 hours after committing the crime is Nguyen Thi Kieu Phuong, born in 1981, residing in Long Dinh hamlet, Long Kien commune, Cho Moi district. The Investigation Police Agency, An Giang Provincial Police, has issued a decision to temporarily detain Phuong to investigate the acts of "murde.r" and "robbery".

According to the initial investigation, at around 8:00 a.m. on February 18, people discovered the body of a man lying under a clump of water hyacinth along the bank of Ong Chuong River, in Group 2, Long Hoa 1 Hamlet, Long Kien Commune, Cho Moi District, and reported it to the police. During the investigation, the functional unit identified the victi.m as Mr. Bui Van Thuan (born in 1951, residing in Long Dinh Hamlet, Long Kien Commune, Cho Moi District). Mr. Thuan was harmed and robbed of some of his property.

Considering the complicated nature of the case, with signs of crime, the Board of Directors of An Giang Provincial Police directly went to the scene to inspect and directed the Criminal Police Department to coordinate with the Major Crimes Department, the Criminal Police Department (Ministry of Public Security), relevant professional units and Cho Moi District Police, to concentrate means and forces to investigate and pursue the perpetrato.r.

Using professional measures, within just 48 hours, the police force quickly identified and arrested suspect Nguyen Thi Kieu Phuong, and seized many pieces of evidence.

At the police station, Phuong confessed: Because he borrowed mone.y at high interest rates from strangers and was unable to pay, Phuong knew that Mr. Thuan wore a lot of jewelry. Knowing the daily routine, around 2 a.m., Mr. Thuan would cycle from home to Muong Tinh market to get pork and fish cakes to deliver to customers, so Phuong had the idea of harming Mr. Thuan to get his property to sell to pay off his debt.

To commit the crime, in the early morning of February 18, Phuong drove a motorbike carrying a knife and a meat hammer to find Mr. Thuan. When he arrived at Group 2, Long Hoa 1 Hamlet (Long Kien Commune, Cho Moi District), Phuong met Mr. Thuan so they both stopped their motorbikes to talk. Taking advantage of Mr. Thuan's carelessness, Phuong attacke.d Mr. Thuan. When he saw that the victi.m was no longer alive, Phuong took off three rings from the victi.m's hand and went home to shower, change clothes, and do laundry.

By the morning of February 18, Phuong had sold the three rings he had just robbed from Mr. Thuan for more than 33 million VND. Phuong used part of the mone.y to pay off his debt, and the rest he took home to hide. At around 7:00 p.m. on February 19, Phuong was arrested by the police, his residence was searched, and the crime scene and many other objects and assets related to the crime were seized.

It can be seen that in recent times, many similar heartbreaking incidents have occurred. Recently, a criminal who had been on the run for 31 years was arrested.

Specifically, defendant Viet, 51 years old, was sentenced by the People's Court of Hai Phong City to 20 years in prison for causing deat.h, 42 months in prison for robbery, a total sentence of 20 years in prison.

According to the indictment, due to needing mone.y to spend, on the evening of July 9, 1993, Viet and Nguyen Ngoc Son (then 20 years old, both living in Hai Phong) went to rob.

On An Duong bridge, Son saw Ms. Pham Thi Ly riding her bike, so he chased after her. When Viet blocked the road, Son asked Ms. Ly to "give him the bike".

When resisted, the two then attacke.d the woman.

Seeing Ms. Ly shouting, Son and Viet ran away. The victi.m died later.

Son fled to Vien An commune, Ung Hoa district, Ha Tay province (now part of Hanoi), Viet went to live in Buon Ma Thuot city.

In July 1993, Le Chan District Police, Hai Phong initiated a case, prosecuted the accuse.d, and issued a wanted notice for Son and Viet.

On February 21, 1996, Son was arrested. A year later, he was sentenced to the highest sentence by the Hai Phong People's Court, and in 1998, his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.

On June 22, 2024, Viet was arrested after changing his name to Hoang Van Hai.
