In this appellate session, the court summoned five witnesses and two judicial-forensic experts, belonging to the Criminal Technical Division, Ho Chi Minh City Police.

Court security was tightened, only those with invitations and summons could enter the trial area. At 7:20 a.m., defendants Nguyen Kim Trung Thai and Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang were escorted into the courtroom by police.

It is known that when the trial began, the secretary informed lawyer Pham Thi Ngot to defend Thai defendant with an application for trial in absentia. In addition, the victim's mother, lawyer Pham Cong Hung and lawyer Khuu My Vinh who defended the victim also filed for absenteeism.

There are also witnesses who are absent without reason. In the absence of the lawyer, Thai has no opinion. The jury thought that these absentees did not affect the trial process, so they continued to work.

During the trial, lawyer Nguyen Anh Thom (protecting the victim) burst into tears after watching a clip of Trang handing out with the baby. Mr. Thom presented the content of the appeal, and said that the defendants used lethal items to affect the baby's vital area... from which to propose the court to change the charge against Thai to a crime. hand to cause death.

In court, the Thai defendant testified that before the day VA died, the defendant did not know that Trang's previous attack would lead to her death. "At that time, the defendant was working to earn money to support his children, so he was indifferent to his children. The defendant found that it was not right to change the accused's crime to murder," Thai said.

Thai also said that it is not clear how many times the child was attacked and that Trang's abuse was only to scare the child to study well and the defendant agreed to let Trang do this.

Arguing, lawyer Nguyen Anh Thom suggested that the jury should consider more about the case to avoid omitting the crime. "If Thai says no one can touch my child, who dares to take action?", lawyer Thom asked.

As for the lawyer Tran Thi Ngoc Nu (protecting the victim), she expressed her opinion: Thai witnessed through the camera that Trang hit her child for a few hours on December 22, 2021, this is a series of acts including: fighting days before. It is necessary to punish the right person, the right crime because this is the biological father, not an ordinary person.

On the side of the lawyer defending the Thai defendant, there is no basis to determine that his client committed a deadly crime as an accomplice. As for the defendant Thai, he did not argue with the proposal to reject the appeal of the representative of the Procuracy as well as the proposal to change the crime from the victim's lawyer.

Saying the last word, the defendant Thai expressed remorse and regret about his actions: "The incident happened, the defendant also could not say anything. The defendant's behavior was at fault with his family and caused frustration. in public opinion".

At the end of the appellate session, realizing that the case was complicated, there were many controversies about the crime, so the jury decided to prolong the sentence and will pronounce the sentence on May 10. The Chairman also notified Trang to accept the withdrawal of the appeal and will not need to extract it to the court at the next hearing.

Records show that Baby VA is the biological child of Nguyen Kim Trung Thai and his previous wife. After the divorce, baby VA was given to Thai to raise. After that, Nguyen Vo Quynh Trang returned to live with Thai father and son.

When she was absent from school due to the COVID-19 epidemic, Thai assigned Trang to take care of and tutor her child, but Trang abused her child at any time, under Thai's witness.

At the climax, on December 22, 2021, Trang had a hand with the baby for 4 hours, making the victim unconscious. When taken to the hospital, the victim died before being admitted to the hospital.
