Case of Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang accusing Vo Hoang Yen of fraud: Police decided not to initiate criminal proceedings

The Ho Chi Minh City Police Department has sent a notice to Mr. Vo Hoang Yen and Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang regarding the handling of the crime report.

On January 15, a source confirmed that the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department did not initiate a criminal case surrounding Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang's accusation against Mr. Vo Hoang Yen.

Accordingly, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department said that after reviewing and verifying the content of the accusation of Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang (50 years old, residing in District 1) against Mr. Vo Hoang Yen (47 years old, residing in Binh Thuan province), there were no signs of crime, so the Police Department decided not to prosecute the criminal case. This decision was approved by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Procuracy.

Previously, in March 2021, Ms. Hang accused Mr. Yen of fraud and abuse of trust to appropriate her property in Ho Chi Minh City and several other provinces and cities. According to Ms. Hang, she and her husband, Mr. Huynh Uy Dung (alias Dung "lime kiln"; Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dai Nam Joint Stock Company) supported a large amount of money (about 200 billion VND) for Mr. Yen to do charity work, build pagodas, support floods... However, Mr. Yen did not do it but kept that money and used it for personal purposes. The incident was discovered by Ms. Hang and her husband, so they reported it to the authorities.

During the investigation, due to the expiration of the time limit for checking and verifying the source of information about the crime but without a conclusion from the assessment, on July 18, 2021, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department of Investigation issued a decision to temporarily suspend the handling of the source of information about the crime for Ms. Hang's petition.

In early September 2021, after receiving the conclusion of the appraisal, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department issued a decision to resume the handling of criminal information sources to continue investigating and verifying the case.

Previously, on October 16, 2021, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang went to the headquarters of the Criminal Police Department (PC02) - Ho Chi Minh City Police to work on the litigation related to Mr. Vo Hoang Yen. After leaving, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang went on livestream to say that she was assaulted by a group of people there.

Ms. Hang said in the livestream: "Those five people assaulted me at the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department in the office... There was only one of my lawyers and one police officer.

And then the police officer who was handling the case called a few more police officers to come down and maintain order."

In the livestream clip, Ms. Hang clearly mentioned the name of lawyer K.

Ms. Hang said she will file a request with the Ministry of Public Security and relevant authorities to extract camera footage to clarify and handle the case.

"I pledge that what I say is true and I take full responsibility before the law," Ms. Hang affirmed in the livestream.

It is known that at that time, Mr. Dung "lime kiln", namely Mr. Huynh Uy Dung, Ms. Hang's husband, was with her. But Mr. Dung "lime kiln" later went out.

Meanwhile, a police source said that they had not heard anything and would review the case. Another source said that Ms. Hang and a lawyer met with Mr. Vo Hoang Yen and his group of lawyers at the headquarters of PC02 - Ho Chi Minh City Police. The two sides argued loudly but there was no assault on Ms. Hang.

Later, because of public opinion that she had slandered Mr. Vo Hoang Yen and the lawyers, the owner of Dai Nam publicly released a recording as evidence. The recording content mentioned that the argument happened back and forth, and the word "assault" she used here meant to refer to the threatening and intimidating actions of Mr. Yen.
