On the morning of January 28, 2025, an unfortunate incident occurred in District 3, Ho Chi Minh City when a car suddenly drove onto the sidewalk and crashed straight into a coffee shop. The incident left a man seriously injured and some property in the shop damaged.
The incident occurred at around 7:30 a.m. when a 5-seat car with a technology service license plate was traveling on Truong Sa Street, from District 1 to Tan Binh District. When the car passed through the Nhieu Loc Coopmart area, the car suddenly lost control, jumped onto the sidewalk and crashed into a nearby coffee shop.
At the time of the incident, the coffee shop was crowded. According to Ms. Nga, the owner, when the car crashed into the shop, there were about 5-6 people sitting drinking coffee. "At that moment, the car hit the electric box and two motorbikes parked in front of the shop, then hit a male customer about 60 years old. The scene was horrifying, I couldn't believe it happened right before my eyes," Ms. Nga shared.
The cafe was badly damaged, with tables and chairs overturned and objects strewn everywhere. One of the motorbikes was badly damaged and trapped under the car. The person affected was a man, with part of his body trapped under the car, making rescue efforts difficult.
After the incident, many people around the area immediately rushed to support and help the man escape from the dangerous situation. Thanks to timely coordination, they lifted the car to rescue the man from under the car. Although the man suffered serious injuries to his thigh and leg, fortunately he was still conscious and able to talk. The man was then transferred to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Ms. Nga, the cafe owner, said that although no one in the shop was seriously injured, the incident left everyone in a state of panic. "Luckily, no one was seriously injured, but if the car had crashed into the shop a few seconds longer, the consequences would have been much more serious," she said.
At the scene, the 7-seater car was severely damaged, the front of the car was crushed. Besides the car, many properties in the shop were broken and ruined. District 3 traffic police arrived promptly to examine the scene and determine the cause of the incident. In addition, the functional forces also coordinated with related units to conduct the investigation.
According to information from the authorities, the initial cause of the incident may be related to the driver losing control of the vehicle. Traffic police have conducted alcohol tests and factors related to the driver's behavior. However, the specific investigation results will be announced after full information is available.
Truong Sa Street, where the incident occurred, is one of the main routes connecting District 1 and Tan Binh District, with quite heavy traffic density, especially during rush hours. However, this area also has many restaurants, shops and small businesses, creating a high risk of unfortunate situations, especially when traffic gets out of control.
Traffic conditions in Ho Chi Minh City have recently become increasingly tense, with the number of vehicles increasing rapidly and the traffic infrastructure not being improved in a timely manner. This incident once again reminds us of the importance of strengthening inspection, supervision and improvement of roads in densely populated areas to minimize the risk of unfortunate situations.
Although there is no official information about the specific cause, this incident is still a warning about the need to comply with traffic laws and protect public safety. Hopefully, the authorities will soon come to a conclusion and take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
