Thanks to the influence of the movie "Mai", the noodle shop appearing in the movie quickly attracted a huge number of customers. Selling more than a hundred bowls every day, the service was so tiring that the shop owner was surprised and couldn't believe it was true.
Noodle shop Giai Ky Mi Gia (District 5, Ho Chi Minh City) has just appeared in the movie "Mai" and has attracted many customers to the restaurant after reopening after Tet. Previously, the restaurant was open from 4:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. the next day, but since it became known to many people thanks to the movie "Mai", the noodle shop often has to close 5-6 hours earlier.
According to Mr. Huynh Gia Cuong (owner of the noodle shop), the restaurant has been operating for 40 years but this is the first time the restaurant has fallen into a state of overcrowding and had to close early. After Tet, the noodle shop officially reopens on February 21, 2024 (January 11). The small noodle shop was chosen by director Tran Thanh as the place where Mai and Sau went to eat at night.
In fact, this is also a rare all-night noodle shop in District 5 that is regularly visited by Tran Thanh, Anh Duc and famous artists. That was also the fate that brought Giai Ky Mi Gia to the movie "Mai".
After watching the movie "Mai", many people observantly recognized the restaurant. Content creators and reviewers came to ask to film. Thanks to that, the noodle shop became more and more popular and surprisingly crowded. Not only young people but also many adults are curious to try the noodle soup at the restaurant.
Having been around for a long time, the restaurant already has a certain number of regular customers. However, in recent days, most diners are young people who come here after watching movies or watching review clips on social networking sites.
In the movie, Mr. Cuong's noodle shop is where the two characters Sau and Mai stop by for a late night meal. Many observant moviegoers recognized the "familiar restaurant" so they came to visit it. There were also people who visited the restaurant out of curiosity and wanted to enjoy the flavors here, especially the dried rice vermicelli dish that appeared in the movie.
Every afternoon, when the restaurant just opened not long ago. Many people came without a place to sit but were willing to wait to enjoy the food here, making the 4 people in the restaurant, all relatives of Mr. Cuong's family... "out of breath".
Mr. Cuong said that because this is a family restaurant and does not hire additional workers, he decided to do what he can, and when it sells out, he will stop and not prepare too many ingredients. In the past, customers came scattered throughout the hours, but now it's crowded from the moment it opens so it ends early.
"Customers have been coming in droves since opening. After 6 p.m., the table was almost full, luckily many customers were willing to wait," Mr. Cuong said.
The noodle shop had a fairly small area, with only a few tables, then increased, with only a few family members serving, so when the number of customers suddenly increased, the seller did not stop working.
The noodle shop serves 5 dishes with prices ranging from 45,000-55,000 VND/bowl. Among them, dried mixed noodles and fresh wontons are two main dishes, loved by many people. After the movie "Mai", many people came here to experience mixed dried rice noodles like the two main characters in the movie.
The later in the evening, the more crowded the restaurant becomes. The restaurant owner had to set up more tables and chairs and the waiter did not have time to take a break. Many diners who are used to eating late at this noodle shop now have to come early, because arriving late will have to leave with the owner shaking his head "no food".
Since noticing the rapid increase in the number of customers, the restaurant owner has had to get up at 4 a.m. and prepare double the ingredients to serve customers in time. Every day, the small noodle shop sells more than 100 bowls.
