Injecting full-body filler to be perfectly beautiful, the young girl had to go through 60 times on the operating table, hundreds of scars deep all over her body, the thigh area was broken, torn to the point of exposing muscle bundles.
Dr. Nguyen Phan Tu Dung, Director of a cosmetic hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, shared about an emergency case of serious complications due to full-body filler injections. This is one of the biggest cases of necrosis that he and his crew have ever faced, leaving a deep haunting.
In the operating room, the girl's heart-rending cry for help rang out: "Doctor, save me!" . It was not only a plea, but also the beginning of a stressful surgery, facing severe necrosis.
According to Dr. Dung, the patient was admitted to the hospital in a state of panic, cringing every time the doctor approached, crying and repeating: "Save me, suture again to help me, I am in a lot of pain". The smell of pus discharge. rose intensely through the gauze bandage. Her right thigh was swollen and purple, with a 10x25cm deep ulcer, revealing a bundle of muscles. Every medical operation made her tremble because of the obsession from dozens of previous surgeries.
Dr. Tu Dung described this as a " historic necrotic emergency" . The patient has undergone more than 60 surgeries in 6 years: incisions, stitches, skin grafts, drainage, excision â a vicious cycle of physical pain and mental crisis.
The consequences of the filler injection process are too much. Since 2019, she has continuously injected full-body fillers from her face, abdomen, buttocks to thighs. She not only stayed in Vietnam but also went to Dubai; using all kinds of fillers, many products of unknown origin. Pointing to the scars all over her body, the girl said: "If you feel that you are not beautiful, you will continue to inject."
Complications began to appear, forcing her to be hospitalized for continuous surgery. After each operation, it seemed to be fine, but the necrosis recurred in another location.
Two weeks before she was admitted to the hospital, her condition deteriorated rapidly. The right thigh area was swollen, red, and painful as if it had been cut by hundreds of sharp objects. Purulent fluid flows out in waves. Another hospital had a preliminary operation but it could not be controlled, causing the necrosis to spread. Eventually, she was moved in physically and mentally exhausted.
Choking surgery
The emergency operation lasted nearly 5 hours, described by Dr. Tu Dung as suffocating. Fillers of unknown origin have clumped, creeping like cobwebs in the muscle layers, causing soft tissue to almost shatter from the groin to the knee. The pus was thick and had a strong odor, forcing the team to process quickly and accurately to prevent the necrosis from spreading.
Doctors and colleagues had to operate deep into the muscles, dredging each necrotic cavity like archaeologists separating each layer of soil. Each use of the knife requires absolute concentration to avoid damage to large vascular bundles.
"I have handled many cases of filler complications, but I have never faced such a deep abscess," Dr. Dung shared.
After surgery, the patient was placed with a VAC (negative pressure suction) system to drain pus and dry the wound. At the same time, she was given a broad-spectrum antibiotic infusion, combined with antibacterial technology to reduce inflammation, fight swelling and support recovery. Doctors also focus on psychological stability for patients, preparing for further interventions.
Dr. Tu Dung emphasized that fillers are not wrong, but using them in the wrong way, in the wrong place, in the wrong person can lead to unpredictable consequences. Injecting fillers by unskilled people or using floating products is an act of self-harm in silence.
Cases like the above not only cause necrosis of each muscle layer but can also lead to loss of life. The concept of "quick and beautiful injection, no pain, no risk" is a dangerous illusion.
Are filler injections safe?
Along with the development of modern beauty technologies, filler injections are becoming one of the most chosen cosmetic methods today. However, is this method really "miraculous" as many rumors or is filler injection harmful or not?
Filler injections or filler injections are injections that inject a compound that has a natural filling effect to the position at the folds and tissues of the face to reduce the presence of wrinkles and restore fullness on the face, while gradually reducing the signs of aging over time. These substances are injected under the skin at locations such as the cheeks, lips, chin, crow's feet in the eyes, and the sunken area under the eyes.
Many customers will wonder if this method is safe or if filler injections are harmful later. In general, the majority of fillers, especially fillers containing hyaluronic acid, can be absorbed naturally into the body. At the same time, this is also a relatively limited invasive method, so the harms caused by filler injections are usually not too dangerous.
However, there are many types of fillers on the market today that are advertised as effective that last for many years and sometimes permanently. Cosmetologists recommend that their customers should not choose these fillers because they can cause a lot of side effects and the treatment of consequences is also very complicated.
