On August 19, at a regular press conference held at the police headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, a member of the Korean National Police Agency said that it is expected to summon Suga (BTS) to the police station this week for investigation.
"The investigation (into BTS' Suga) has not yet been launched. We are coordinating the schedule (for summoning Suga) and plan to confirm the schedule this week. We will conduct a detailed investigation into the circumstances leading to the drunk driving behavior," the official said.
"We will not summon on weekends or at night. We will apply the same procedure as summoning other suspects," the official clarified in response to questions about whether BTS members were summoned separately for media coverage.
At the meeting, the official also expressed confusion over Suga and Big Hit's previous apology post, which stated that Suga's driver's license had been revoked and the singer had paid a fine.
The police said: "If they have checked and punished drunk driving at the scene, they will be explained about the remaining procedures. We do not understand why they made such a statement. Maybe they are drunk and do not remember." In addition, this official also questioned whether Big Hit was intentionally reducing the seriousness of the incident when it stated that the vehicle Suga was driving was an "electric kickboard without a seat", while in fact the male singer used an "electric scooter with a seat".
Suga (BTS) scandal is the hottest event in the Korean entertainment industry. As a member of the most famous Korean boy band, Suga is facing a lot of criticism and consequences for his behavior.
Not only is he being boycotted by audiences and fans, but his commercial contracts are also showing signs of being affected. Typically, a famous phone brand has removed Suga's promotional image from its social media posts.
Accordingly, over the years, BTS has been the face of the Samsung brand. On August 15, the German Samsung account posted a promotional photo of Suga, followed by a poll between Suga, Jimin and RM. However, after Suga won the most votes, the German Samsung account quietly deleted both posts featuring the male idol.
This move by Samsung Germany has angered BTS fans around the world. Many fans believe that this brand has a cold and backing move when the ambassador is involved in a scandal. These fans declared a boycott of Samsung and left comments criticizing the brand: "No Suga, no Samsung", "It's sad that Suga is a loyal user but the brand deleted his photo because of public pressure", "We are happy that the brand still supports Suga but then only receives disappointment"...
Not only did the brand turn its back on him, the public also demanded a boycott and forced him to leave BTS.
Specifically, many protest trucks and wreaths were sent and displayed in front of the HYBE building gate to demand Suga leave BTS.
This is not the first time HYBE headquarters has been filled with wreaths, it was once before. However, the previous event when fans sent wreaths was to protest HYBE, demanding justice for BTS because they were caught up in the company's scandal with Min Hee Jin.
Meanwhile, the wreath sending incident this time was to protest Suga, asking the male singer to leave the group after the recent drunk driving scandal. This is still a big crisis for HYBE in general and BTS in particular.
Suga's scandal also caused a male idol to be implicated. Accordingly, a few days ago, SEVENTEEN member Seungkwan posted on his personal Instagram page a post promoting an alcoholic beverage product that the male singer collaborated with. Seungkwan also attached a shared line: "Excessive alcohol use can cause stroke, memory loss or dementia. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy increases the risk of birth defects. So drink within the prescribed limit."
After that, Seungkwan's post received a lot of anger from Suga's fan community, many comments flooded into this post of the male singer, saying that Seungkwan intended to criticize the BTS member for the recent drunk driving scandal. However, in reality, because this post of Seungkwan appeared at the time when Suga's scandal was in a tense period, it caused misunderstanding among the fan community of the BTS rapper.
