Recently, a woman in Brazil allegedly took her deceased uncle to the bank on April 16 to secure a loan of 17,000 reais (equivalent to about 82 million VND).
Images recorded at the scene show bank employees becoming suspicious when they saw the woman holding the head and hands of the seemingly unresponsive man and trying to force him to sign the loan documents. .
"Uncle, do you hear? You need to sign this document to get the money. I can't sign for you," the woman said to the man with pale skin and closed eyes.
"He didn't say anything, that's just how he is," the woman reassured the bank employees. However, bank employees said they could not lend money to the man in this condition. Immediately after that, they called the police and an ambulance.
According to reports from Brazilian media outlets G1, O Dia and UOL NotÃcias, the woman, identified as Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes, 42, was later arrested at the scene for fraud and trespass. violation.
Nunes then told the deceased man: " If you're not well, I'll take you to the hospital." The bank employee became suspicious when the man's head kept tilting back, so he called the police. Nunes was arrested on the spot and charged with fraud. He was taken to the morgue.
"She knew he was dead. He had been dead for at least two hours," police investigator Fabio Luiz Souza told news program Bom Dia Rio on April 17.
Nunes is said to have taken the body of 68-year-old Paulo Roberto Braga in a wheelchair to a bank in Bangu, a neighborhood in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. She tried to persuade the man to sign the loan documents by holding the man's head and hands.
The police investigation later revealed surveillance footage showed Nunes and a driver helping Mr. Braga out of the car in a parking lot near the bank. Mr. Braga did not react at all in the video.
Police Chief Fábio Luiz told G1 news agency that Mr. Braga died when he was taken to the bank. The incident made many people angry because it was not simply a matter of deception, but also a disrespectful and cruel exploitation of the deceased.
"In my 22 years as a police officer, I have never seen anything as terrible as this," commented police chief Fábio.
The lawyer mentioned that Nunes was taking medication for psychological treatment and may have gone through a period of instability that day. Police said the investigation is continuing and other family members are being identified.
Footage of Vieira's bizarre and macabre attempt to profit from her loved one's body has spread on social networks, causing many Brazilians to express shock at the scene.
Bank employees began recording the clip after smelling the body, one employee commented on Mr. Braga's pale skin on the recorded images: "He couldn't do anything when Vieira try to put the pen in his stiff hand again".
"It's unbelievable. It seems like an accident, but this is very serious," news anchor Leilane Neubarth exclaimed about the scandal on the GloboNews network. "She went to the bank with a deceased person's body and tried to get money from a deceased person."
Another journalist - Camila Bomfim - was similarly stunned. "This goes beyond all limits because there can be no doubt... about the difference between the living and the deceased," Bomfim said.
