The scanda.l of Hung Huynh's MV "Chang The Nham Mat" is suspected of plagiarizing "Standing Next To You" by Jung Kook (BTS). From the condemnation and anger of V-ARMY to apologies and hiding the MV, it seemed to be over. But the latest developments have created an unexpected turn.
On the evening of January 9, Hung Huynh officially spoke out on his personal page about the controversy surrounding his debut MV "Can't Close My Eyes". On his personal page, he thanked fans for always trusting him and affirmed that the MV did not infringe on copyright as previously accuse.d by the online community. Hung Huynh hopes that the incident will be closed so he can focus on his upcoming music products.
According to the male singer's legal representative, the forensic conclusion confirmed that the MV "Can't Close Your Eyes" did not copy any elements from Jung Kook's (BTS) MV "Standing Next To You".
This information has created a wave of diverse reactions in the online community. Darling (Hung Huynh's fandom name) was extremely happy and supportive of their idol, and did not forget to remind him to fulfill his promise to dance on the walking street if the MV reached top 1.
Meanwhile, the ARMY community has maintained a remarkable silence. There have been no harsh condemnations or strong campaigns on social media. This silence can be interpreted in many ways: perhaps they respect the conclusions of the independent assessment unit, or perhaps they feel disappointed and do not want to continue the debate.
On the online community in general, many people were happy and thought that this was a lesson for baseless accusations. However, there were also opinions that hastily concluding that plagiarism based on superficial similarities was unfair and needed objective assessment from experts.
Hung Huynh's scanda.l has stirred up the online community in recent times. Immediately after the MV "Chang The Nham Mat" was released, many viewers quickly noticed remarkable similarities with Jung Kook's MV "Standing Next To You".
These similarities range from camera angles, staging, setting, to costume style. This has sparked a wave of suspicion and accusations of plagiarism in the online community, especially in the ARMY community.
The incident escalated when music producer Kewtiie, the person behind Hung Huynh's MV, made moves and statements that were considered to anger the Army over plagiarism suspicions. Specifically, Kewtiie posted a picture of Michael Jackson with the caption "It all comes from here, what's so tense about it" and a post dedicated to Jung Kook's "Golden" album. These actions were considered disrespectful by the ARMY community and added fuel to the fire, causing anger to peak.
V-ARMY has expressed strong dissatisfaction through social media campaigns, especially on the X platform (formerly Twitter). The hashtag #STOPCOPYINGBTS quickly became a trend, attracting the attention of not only the Vietnamese fan community but also the international ARMY community.
BTS's FB pages and blogs also simultaneously called for a "mass trend", tagging the accounts of BigHit Music and HYBE (BTS's management company) to request intervention and clarification of the matter. Some people even called on brands to stop cooperating with Hung Huynh as a pressure measure.
Facing increasing pressure from public opinion, Hung Huynh apologized on his personal page. He expressed his appreciation and understanding of the audience's comments, and at the same time sent a sincere apology for unintentionally affecting everyone.
However, this apology received mixed opinions. Many people thought that the apology was too general, did not directly address the plagiarism issue, and lacked sincerity. This further increased dissatisfaction in the ARMY community, causing them to continue to ask Hung Huynh to remove the MV from the platforms. Finally, the MV "Chang The Nham Mat" was temporarily hidden.
