Recently, the Hanoi Department of Health has officially announced the vaccination incident for 18 children in Quoc Oai district, Hanoi.

Accordingly, on November 3, the health station of Yen Son commune, Quoc Oai district, Hanoi organized vaccination for children aged 1-6 months. However, during the vaccination process, there was an incident where Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine was mistakenly administered to 18 children aged 2-6 months.

After the incident, Hanoi brought 18 cases of children who were mistakenly vaccinated with the above vaccine to Saint Paul General Hospital for care and monitoring. At the same time, Hanoi Department of Health reported to the Ministry of Health and consulted with leading professors in the country, medical experts from the World Health Organization and UNICEF. The leading experts of the National Children's Hospital directly examined the children. According to the Hanoi Department of Health, the current health status of the children is stable, some children have symptoms of fever, redness and swelling at the injection site, which are common reactions after the injection; There were no cases of anaphylactic shock.

Before the above incident, on the afternoon of November 4, Quoc Oai district directed and requested the district health center and Yen Son commune health station to suspend the injection line consisting of 4 medical staff and suspend the work of medical staff. The Ministry of Health directly injects to review responsibilities and review the vaccination procedures for children. Quoc Oai District People's Committee also admitted "this is a very serious incident".

The World Health Organization recommends not rushing to vaccinate children from 3-12 years old, instead continue to vaccinate people over 18 years old, especially in poor countries and people at high risk. Currently, Vietnam is in a campaign to cover children with COVID-19 vaccines, however, the age of vaccination guided by the Ministry of Health is from 12-18 years old. There are no plans to vaccinate children 3-12 years of age.

Soc Trang is the first province in the West to organize Covid-19 vaccination for children

From December 1 to 6, the first dose is given to 78,661 children from 12 to under 16 years old; From December 26 to December 30, the second injection is held.

In the first quarter of 2022, 182,481 children from 3 to under 12 years old and children from 12 to under 18 years old will be vaccinated. From the second quarter to the fourth quarter of 2022, additional injections will be carried out under the guidance of the Ministry of Health. According to Soc Trang Department of Health, the total number of children from 3 to under 18 years old in the province who are expected to receive 2 doses of Covid-19 vaccine is 293,017, equivalent to 586,034 doses. The vaccine used for injection for children from 3 to under 18 years old is Pfizer or according to the allocation of the Ministry of Health.

For school-going children, they will be vaccinated at a school or at an appropriate injection site selected by an educational institution to ensure vaccination safety and disease prevention. Children who do not go to school will be vaccinated at fixed or mobile vaccination points in the areas selected by the People's Committees of districts, towns and cities. Particularly, children with underlying diseases will be vaccinated at specialized Obstetrics - Pediatrics Hospitals, Provincial General Hospitals and district and town health centers.
