Seeing the car stop on the side of the road without any movement, people approached and called continuously but no one answered. When the authorities came to pry open the door, they discovered that the driver had stopped breathing.
On December 17, Thong Nhat District Police (Dong Nai) said they were investigating the cause of a man dying in a car stopping in front of a restaurant. The victim was identified as LNB (born in 1969, residing in Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province).
According to initial information, around 11:00 p.m. on December 16, Mr. B. drove a car with license plate number 51K-914.18 heading from Dong Nai to Binh Thuan. When arriving in the Dau Giay town area (Thong Nhat district), this person stopped at a roadside restaurant to have a meal.
After that, Mr. B. returned to the car, closed the door, turned on the air conditioner to sleep. This morning, people called the door many times but did not hear the driver answer. They suspected something was wrong so they reported it to the local authorities.
When the authorities arrived at the scene, they broke the car door to rescue them, but the person had already stopped breathing. Inside the car, there were no signs of opening doors or tampering with personal belongings. Initially, the police suspected that the victim died from asphyxiation.
According to Dr. Babu Shershad from First Medical Center (Dubai, UAE), sleeping in a car with air conditioning on can cause suffocation. Because if the car's mechanical functions are not up to standard, the possibility of exhaust gas leaking into the car while sleeping can increase the risk of suffocation because it reduces oxygen levels to low.
However, the main thing to watch out for is the buildup of carbon monoxide that can be caused by a leak from the exhaust pipe. CO is a toxic gas to the blood, and an increase in CO levels in the car can actually reduce the amount of oxygen entering the blood, as CO binds to red blood cells and displaces oxygen. This results in the blood carrying more CO, and a lack of oxygen causing suffocation, eventually leading to shock or, in severe cases, death.
In the case of a car with a well-functioning air conditioning system, air circulation in small spaces may also be affected. Even if air circulates in and out of the car, it's still not enough for a person to breathe in an enclosed space, according to Gulf News.
Signs and symptoms of CO poisoning may include: Headache, nausea, dizziness, vomiting, chest pain, difficulty breathing, confusion, seizures, coma, according to Says newspaper citing sources from the Ministry Malaysian Health.
The longer the gas is inhaled, the more severe the symptoms will be. Furthermore, loss of consciousness may occur in a short time if there is a lot of CO in the air. A sober person can recognize these symptoms and take immediate action. However, the dangerous thing about sleeping in a car is that this person can die from CO poisoning without showing any symptoms.
Not long ago, in Bien Hoa City, there was also a similar case to Mr. B. Initial information, at about 6:30 a.m. on February 9, some people in group 6, KP. Binh Duong, Long Binh Tan Ward, while going to the gym, discovered a 7-seat car with license plate number 60A-294.94 parked close to the roadside, with a person lying motionless.
This group of people approached the door and called several times, but did not see the man answer, so they quickly reported it to the authorities. Immediately afterwards, Police Department of Long Binh Tan Ward arrived at the scene and broke the window to open the car door and discovered that the driver in the car had no signs of life.
The victim was identified as Mr. THT (born in 1962, living in group 6, Binh Duong Quarter, Long Binh Tan Ward). At the time of discovering the incident, Mr. T.'s car was parked about 15 meters from his house. This person's body was then transferred to the morgue of Dong Nai Provincial General Hospital for autopsy.
At noon of the same day, Bien Hoa City police coordinated with functional forces to conduct a scene examination to investigate and verify the cause of Mr. T's unusual death.
