In recent days, many parents have had to live in a state of confusion and helplessness after spending money on sending their children to study foreign languages at a famous center. Suddenly, after a night's sleep, many parents were shocked to realize that the center had taken the money and run away.
Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City â Hundreds of parents in Thu Duc City are in a state of confusion and frustration after the Australian English Center ( part of the AIES system operated by Duy Khang Education - Training Company Limited) suddenly closed, cut off contact, and "took" billions of dong in tuition fees that had been collected. The incident not only caused great economic damage but also caused parents to lose trust in educational institutions.
Ms. Dang Thi Hue ( living in Thu Duc City ) choked up as she shared about the 35 million VND she paid for her son's 3-year first grade course . "My son had only studied 7 sessions when the center announced it was closed for repairs for a week, then suddenly announced it was closing without mentioning a tuition refund. That amount of money is a fortune for a worker's family like mine," Ms. Hue said indignantly. She said that because she trusted the center, which had been operating for more than ten years and had a good reputation, she boldly signed up for the longest package.
In the same situation, Ms. Le Thi Thuy ( living in Thu Duc City ) has two children studying here. The eldest daughter is preparing for the IELTS exam and has just paid an additional ten million VND, while the youngest son has just paid more than 46 million VND for a long-term course. The joy was not complete when the center announced that it was closing. "Our family is also in difficulty, we also saved up for our children to pay tuition, we believed that the center had a proper license, but suddenly it turned out like this," Ms. Thuy worried. This mother also expressed her loss of faith: "Now we no longer trust any center to entrust our children to."
The amount of money is up to tens of billions of dong and the parents' actions
According to the reporter's source, at the Kha Van Can facility of the Australian English Center alone, the tuition fees paid by parents amounted to more than 10 billion VND. Many parents have children who have only studied for a few sessions and have lost a large amount of money.
Faced with this situation, Mr. Do Vu Huy , one of the parents who helped to collect the documents, said that 171 parents had signed a photocopy of the receipt to complete the complaint file to send to the police. Previously, 123 individual complaints had been sent, but the ward police had instructed the parents to file a collective complaint so that the matter could be resolved more centrally and effectively.
Information ambiguity and board responsibility
On the morning of May 16, many parents were shocked when the center suddenly closed without any clear notice. Previously, the center had only announced a temporary suspension of operations to repair the facilities. Notably, the incident was exposed when the center's staff sent a notice to parents, sharing that they were also "defrauded" when their salaries were owed. Currently, the official website of the Australian English Center is inaccessible, and all attempts to contact the center's leadership have received no response.
The Australian English Center belongs to the AIES system , operated by Duy Khang Education - Training Company Limited . Mr. Ho Dang Duy has been the director of this company since its establishment in 2007. The headquarters of Duy Khang Company at 182-184-186 Le Van Viet (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) is also the operating location of the AIES Le Van Viet facility.
This incident once again raises the alarm about the lax management of English centers that are "springing up like mushrooms", causing many parents to face the risk of losing money and having their children's education interrupted. Can the authorities soon intervene, demand justice for the parents and come up with solutions to protect the rights of the people?
