A serious accident involving three relief vehicles has just occurred on National Highway 16, Huoi Tu Commune (Nghe An), leaving one person injured and three vehicles severely damaged. This incident has raised concerns about traffic safety on dangerous mountainous roads.
At around 1:20 p.m. on July 29, a horrific traffic collision between three relief vehicles for people affected by floods occurred on National Highway 16, through Huoi Tu Commune, Nghe An Province. The truck with license plate 37C-468.xx was determined to have lost its brakes while going downhill, crashing into the back of the truck with license plate 34C-127.xx and the pickup truck with license plate 37C-527.xx in front.
The tragic consequences left one person seriously injured, all three vehicles severely damaged, turning the vehicles carrying heavy loads of humanity into scrap metal. This accident is not just an isolated incident but also a tragic warning bell about the deadly danger of Highway 16 - the death road that is becoming a terrifying obsession for relief convoys and people in flooded areas.
According to the scene of the accident on July 29, the truck with license plate 37C-468.xx was transporting goods and necessities to the flood victims in My Ly and Nhon Mai communes when it suddenly encountered an accident. While going downhill at high speed, the vehicle's braking system is said to have seriously malfunctioned, causing the driver to completely lose control. This crazy truck crashed straight into the back of the truck and pickup truck moving in front, creating a huge collision. The loud noise echoed throughout the mountains and forests, followed by panicked screams from the rescuers.
The injured victim was quickly given first aid by other rescuers present at the scene and rushed to the Ky Son Medical Center for emergency treatment. The road was only reopened after nearly an hour of congestion, leaving behind a desolate scene of deformed vehicles and overwhelming anxiety.
What is more alarming is that this is not the first time this area has witnessed such tragic accidents. According to local residents, the section of National Highway 16 passing through Huoi Tu commune, especially the long slopes and sharp turns, is prone to frequent accidents, which become even more deadly during the rainy season.
They recounted that not long before, on the same route, another rescue vehicle had overturned, and many other cases had also been recorded of vehicles losing their brakes while going downhill, leaving the driver and passengers in a life-threatening situation. The stories about the hell of Huoi Tu - My Ly with a series of horrific accidents have made people shudder and extremely confused.
National Highway 16 is a vital route, running through many rugged highland areas of Nghe An such as Muong Xen, Bac Ly, Huoi Tu, My Ly, Nhon Mai, Tri Le... These are areas that face harsh weather conditions and rugged terrain all year round, and are often heavily affected by natural disasters. In recent days, due to prolonged severe rain and floods, many other routes leading to remote communes have been completely cut off by landslides, flash floods, and flash floods, leaving thousands of people isolated and lacking food, clean water, and essential necessities.
In that critical situation, Highway 16, despite the lurking dangers, became the only way to reach and support the flood victims who were waiting for help. Hundreds of relief trucks from all over the country, carrying the sympathy of their fellow countrymen, did not fear danger, day and night struggling to overcome steep slopes, hairpin bends and landslides to reach the flood victims. Each truck was a ray of hope, carrying life and kindness.
However, this uniqueness also poses numerous risks. The heavy traffic, combined with the rugged terrain and complex weather conditions, have turned Highway 16 into a road of death, where tragic accidents can strike at any time, taking the lives of those on their noble mission.
In the wake of the series of accidents on Highway 16, Nghe An authorities warned drivers to be especially careful when traveling on dangerous mountainous roads, especially when it rains. Vehicle inspections, slow driving, and keeping a safe distance are recommended. The incident is a painful reminder of the dangers of volunteer work and the urgency of upgrading transport infrastructure in mountainous areas.
